Kage, why do you say GHM might be losing more properties in the pipeline?

when there are all the disappearing references, GM for suzhou moving to andermatt may not be usual move. not to mention the losses of operating hotels.

I’ll do my best to convey that in this review, though I’ll note that I was at the Amans in India about two years ago, and when I started planning this trip to Bali with my mom I said to myself “hmm, was the Aman experience really that special, or was I exaggerating things in my memory?” And the answer was simple — yes, the experience is that amazing.

Kage I don't think you should start comparing Alila with GHM or Aman - it is a much inferior product. Sort of low-level Banyan Tree.

i did not compare alila. aman no longer does individual reservations, and alila added individual reservations. alila is a third of the cost. can always hope aman brings back a boat with individual reservations in future.

Playa Grande...construction of the Aman hotel infrastructure is almost complete in line with the planned budget and timeline. Construction of the first Aman hotel mock-up pavilion commenced in August 2013 and is due for completion by year end...One reservation agreement and one final purchase contract have been signed for the sale of two Playa Grande Aman Founder Villas to two NY-based clients.

Anyone with news on the sale of Aman or the MBO of Aman ?
Might I suggest that if there is a stalemate , that mr AZ and the (latest ) owners of Regent Hotels get together and work out a deal ?!
It may have even happened for all we know.
I can't think of a more perfect match .

Regent + Aman , the perfect couple .^

While I have every sympathy for that view, I might add that many people travel to Rwanda fully aware of the political context. They go there to see the mountain gorillas and the presence of tourists helps towards conservation efforts. I'm sure Mr Zecha is thinking about some sort of sensitive game lodge rather than a sybaritic resort as you get in Bali.

Rwanda/Gabon Amans?

For the record, Rwanda did NOT pass any anti-gay law--though it was considered. http://www.starobserver.com.au/news/...w-reform/20722

And while I applaud interest in nations supporting free press and political freedoms, the fact is that luxury properties are already located throughout the world in places of dubious political freedoms (China, for example?) and/or lack of free press. The Tutsi genocide was quite some time ago, and holding the country forever responsible for such horrible acts would preclude luxury properties or businesses operating in many places in the world!

Personally, I would love to see a Rwandan Aman property.

The article indicates there has not been previous sub-Saharan investment from Aman. What ever happened to the Gabon properties being considered/constructed?

Some updates about Aman in China.

AmanDayan opening date has been postponed to mid 2014.

Few photos found on social mediate site.

Aman in Diqin, Yunnan province in southwest China. Starting construction earlier this year, so opening could be around 2015.

Same owner is planning to sigh another management contract with Aman in Fujian province.
