Is 50 Minutes Enough Connection Time At DFW?

I'm looking at an American Airlines flight from LAS with a connection at DFW to the final destination of YYZ.

50 minutes seems short, but I've never been to DFW, so have no experience with American Airlines at this airport.

Generally, I would never take a connection under an hour for a flight, especially in a case like this where this is the last flight on any airline from DFW to YYZ that night.

If there is a major airport where that would be possible, DFW is a good candidate. The skylink system is very convenient. I've made tight connections like that there.

If your inbound flight is delayed though....

If the flight lands on time, not the padded time, you probably have more like an hour.

DFW is easy to get around in a short amount of time, even if you have to change terminals. Just move with a purpose.

Are you sitting up front or in the last row?

Thanks. I am leaving Las Vegas, so I like the idea of keeping the gambling going! In this case gambling I won't miss the connection, but trying to figure out some odds before booking a ticket.

Thanks, I haven't bought a ticket yet, but if I chose this flight would try to get near the front. My best sprint ever was from the United gates to the International terminal at SFO, so I know how to move with a purpose!

40 minutes is the minimum connection time for American at DFW. I connect through there frequently and have only a 40 minute layover tomorrow - I'm not worried about it at all.

The night before your flight, take a look at the planned gates and terminals and match it up with the Skylink map. There are 2 entrances to Skylink per terminal, and you can waste a few minutes if you go to the wrong one.

For example if you land at A23 and are flying out of C27, take the Skylink at A29. If you walk to the one at A16, you'll ride the Skylink past A23, to the stop at A29 and then onwards to Terminal C.

If you are connecting between a high gate at Terminal A and a low gate at Terminal C, the walkway / corridor will be faster than Skylink.

I can't find a map that features both Skylink and gate information, so mash up these two:

Just connected from A11 to C8 at DFW last night in 10 minutes flat. After hours, though, the Skylink runs in one direction only, so the reverse track (C to A) would take a good deal longer. Still, 50 minutes should be fine if your inbound is on time.

Since YYZ is outside the USA, that flight will depart from terminal D.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Swag, the fact that YYZ is outside the USA, in Canada, usually makes no difference. Flying to YYZ would only make a difference if your stopover was at YYZ and your final destination was another Canadian city.

I think swag's point is that it will always leave from Terminal D, so once you land, you know in what general direction you are going automatically.
