The aloft London ExCeL has something called a Smashing (or maybe it's Spectacular) Suite. This is not a typical US style aloft. It is a big property with over 250 rooms.

Savvy suite they have 12 of them. I agree it is a big property probably bigger than the W London. Which makes the reception area/staffing woefully inadequate.

Reviews on Starwood Website

Be sure to post your review of this hotel on Starwoods' own website. They need 5 reviews before any will be posted. So, with mine submitted, they now only need 4.

Done - #6 it seems.

Nice hotel but was not aware of SPG Plat slight - should have looked at the reviews before I stayed

i'm trying to book one night here on the 27th of april but its shows no rooms available....however, if i were to book 3 nights starting on the 27th of april then rooms are available....this is the only weekend where they are forcing a minimum 3 night restriction....

lurkers, are they allowed to do that????

I thought that hotels can apply minimum stay requirements as and when they pleased? I've certainly experiences similar at other properties for both reward and paid stays.

Obviously I'm not a lurker, but until they arrive, that's my experience of it anyway.

Not sure why the hotel has that weekend on that basis, unless the cake show at the Excel centre has a lot of people staying over for it. May be that the organisers have blocked out a large volume of rooms up front, so the restrictions may drop nearer the time.

Well, funny you should mention that

It was 5,000 initially when I checked in, which I did think was slightly high for a cat 4. When I got back home, I noticed on my statement that it said "CAT 4 SPECIALTY UPGRD ONLY 5N", so I called SPG to query this and asked if the 5N meant 5 nights. The agent told me, sorry someone made a mistake and refunded the charge and put a new one for "CAT 4 SPECIALTY UPGRD ONLY 1N".

I wonder what all that means! I am sure someone will enlighten me

I thought in Cat 4 it was 10,000 points for a suite upgrade and 1,000 and above for a room upgrade.

I've booked rooms for relatives there before (I'm only a 15 minute drive away), but after reading your trip report, I will try to use points for a suite upgrade there next time....so, thank you very much!
