What room level did you book?

Remember, the FS has by far the worst room-standarsds level b/t FS and RC in this market (havent stayed at MO yet).

Maybe Im cranky about FS because as I write this Im sitting at the desk of my large, otherwise *gorgeous* renovated corner suite at the FS water tower in Chicago and it has...
1 bathroom
1 sink
a tiny, tiny combo tub/shower tucked in a tiny, tiny water closet

My wife loves baths and was truthful when she commented that she'd be much better off taking a bath at home.

The FS in BOS is a similar cut below the rest. I really cant understand how suite standards like this are acceptable to those on this forum. Unfortunately, the regular rooms arent too dissimilar either.

Excluding the MO for the afforementioned reason, the romantic weekend choice in BOS would be a Club Level Suite at the RC. Great, open bathrooms with deep, seperate tubs. Plenty of space and nice furnishings. Like the FS, note the view your about to get at checkin. They can switch it up on you.

And then locking yourself into your hotel knowing that getting champagne over and over again without having to do much more than think about it can be a pretty nice way to spend a weekend.

Just booked the standard level room. We just got back from Maui so we (I) are on a tight budget. I am hoping we get upgraded like we did in Maui but no big deal if we don't.

Will try the MO next time

It sounds like you have the right attitude to enjoy your visit no matter which hotel you pick; and that's the way it should be! Enjoy!

Today was 60 degrees in Boston. Not sure when you're planning your trip to Boston.
I think you went right if you're looking for romance.

As for the Ritz, while it is in the former combat zone, I think you're being hard on the location. It's a block form the Common and, while the view from the front door is not what I'd call "good," you won't have much interaction with the locals.

We stayed in ritz- club level 1 bed suite in December. No problems at all with the neighbourhood- infact pretty well in the middle of the places that we wanted to go.

Suite was great. Club lounge was fabulous. Never more than 6 people in there. Breakfast, lunch, dinner (snacks more than meals ). Free flowing alcohol- got you anything you wanted. Soft drinks coffee 24-7.

We have booked to go back twice in April. Taking 14 year old son. He will share our suite as loads of room for roll away bed.

Slightly OT, but any specific reason Mamma Maria? It's nice, but I could think of other great places to dine in Boston, and the community here could weigh in. For a posh anniversary evening, I would think about Clio, Rialto, L'Espalier...

It has rec'd really good reviews and I think the cuisine she would enjoy more. She isn't a picky eater but I am thinking she might enjoy Italian more. The other places do have availability and now you have me thinking. lol I somehow can't bring myself to L'Espalier since they moved. I ate at their old location and I don't want to ruin those memories lol.

Plus the north end we could walk about a little afterwards.

Let us know how you find the fs. We did stop by when we were there. We are thinking of staying later in the year.

Not a good start with some pompous twit in Porsche abusing door man as there wasn't a parking space.

The clientel (lunch ) seemed a bit chavvy? They may of course not have been guests.

Agreed. What nonsense about some referring to the location as the combat zone, this was in the 1980's, its 2012 now and as others pointed out its about a 90 second walk to the commons. The FS in Boston is tired, very, very tired. Frankly, I dont see how it compares to the RC Club Level or MO.

Sorry chavvy is a very uk word. Didn't think.

Hmm what I meant was what a friend calls Dubai bling. Gold heels, leopard skin, lots of make up. Lots of people anxious to show how much money they have. Flashing the cash. All about the show.

But as I said it was a weekend lunch in December and probably not guests.

Oh, Barnaby that is funny. I get it now. There are occasions where we have experienced this scenario, chavvy, exactly as described ... never at FS Boston but absolutely yes at the SLS LA and FS Denver. Was way out of my element but enjoyed sitting in the lobby people watching with my 18 year old daughter. The SLS crowd got out of hand though and we had to pack up and leave.

When we returned later that evening wow what a sight; the mob scene had moved from the bar to the pool and the lobby. evidentally this is/was a weekly thing.

I'm reluctant to describe the demographics/scene except to say it's a very young crowd.
= FS denver?
