custom carved pews in lobby for ceremony.

and for the "important stuff" > 3 gowns including custom Monique Lhuillier and 3 pairs of shoes including Christian Louboutin.

anyone know how aman's pricing compares?

http://www.amanresorts.com/weddings.aspx not many mention requirements...

galla - 20 guests (10 rooms) requires buyout (29 rooms)
pulo - more than 20 casitas requires buyout (40 casitas + 11 villas)
jena - "traditional Moroccan wedding celebration" requires buyout (39 villas)

dari - requires 2 room nights
yara - requires 3 nt min for 80% of guests

Aman special events

I have done a few special events at Amans over the years and there is no price-list or menu. They tailor-make everything to suit you. Of course they do! This is Amanresorts!

The experiences, as you would expect, are much more special and spiritual than glitzy. That's why you go to an Aman.

Amandari

I'm off to Hong Kong and Bali tonight. In Ubud I'm staying at FS Sayan, but would like to visit Amandari for either lunch or dinner. Which would be more special?

Go for dinner with the gamelan playing by the pool and the sounds of the night all around!

Yes, I would definitely go for dinner. The chef, Christian Hinckley, is very talented and I loved what he was doing with the menu. I thought the food at Amandari was the best I had in Bali or at least just as good as it was at Mozaic, which was also very good.

I hate to say this, but I am not sure either is a great option...

A) Amandari is spectacular. Amazing. Wonderful. Add your own superlative here.

B) My wife and I were there 3 days / 4 nights just a few days ago. We had a wonderful villa overlooking the Ayung river from our pool terrace, and the rice paddies from our other terraces. Truly an amazing villa. We loved it.

C) We ate dinner 2 nights at Dari - one night we did the Balinese feast in a private Bale set up just for our dinner, and another night at the restaurant. Both meals were very, very good.

So, why, you ask, do I not suggest that you eat at Amandari?

At least while we were there, the restaurant was practically empty! The servers do a great job, and it is pleasant to listen to the gambelan players in the background. But it is hard to build much ambiance when there are only two or three couples in the restaurant with you.

Give them a call - if you will be there this weekend, they will likely be much busier over the Easter Holiday. More people in the restaurant would make for a more fun evening (at least in my wife's and my opinion!).

Another dinner in Ubud we ate at the Lotus Cafe downtown. The food was good (not as good as Dari, but good). Additionally, the place was very lively and full of people, which, as you may have guessed, is the way we prefer it! The restaurant is situated right outside a temple, and the evening we were there, there was a well done performance (music and traditional dancing) at the temple which we could watch from our seats.

Hopefully this gives you an idea of our experience. If you know Aman, you know they will want to make sure you are happy. Determine what you are looking for from your dining experience and call them and make sure they can deliver.

All that said, I would also agree that dinner would be the best and only option. Dark evening, the green light over the infinity pool, and the gambelan players make it far more of an experience than a lunchtime meal...

Have fun on Bali! We sure did!

If you go for dinner, make sure that you arrive before sunset to see the view and have a drink in the lovely bar. It is true that the restaurant is not full, but I did not think that this was a problem at all, for me it made sure that I was able to enjoy the surroundings and atmosphere more than when I am surrounded by people. Maybe you can even book a private balinese feast. I am not sure they offer this for non-guests, but it was a fantastic meal and the whole idea was for it to be private. Enjoy!

This is the ambiance we prefer. Less crowd noise and more gecko/frog noise. ^

Thank you Ericka for adding color to what I had stated... You are right - it just depends upon what one is looking for from a dining experience.

If you want peace, quiet, Gambalan, romance, outstanding and attentive service (and great food!) all in a very beautiful setting, then by all means go to Amandari for dinner! You will not regret it.

My wife and I do treasure this kind of ambiance, just not every night...

The Balinese feast was a great experience. The Bale was decorated earlier in the afternoon for our dinner. The young dancers (6 or 7 years old?) who take lessons at Amandari started our evening with a private performance just for us. It was a lot of fun and the kids are so adorable! Then on in to a lovely dinner with small portions of quite a few different dishes. It was a good way to get to taste a variety of dishes in one meal. We loved it!

PS Ericka - we also did take your advice and chartered the steam train during our subsequent stay at Amanjiwo. It was awesome! We loved every second of it! We were not able to fit in a visit to go see Sela, so we'll have to meet the artistic elephant on our next trip to Java.

Amandari will be perfect if you really prefer excellent food.. Babi guling's the best - better than Oka .
The atmosphere is unbeatable for that part of Bali.. Even compared with Begawan Giri & the likes of it
How often are you there anyway & .. relish the ' solitude ' . Why do you go to Bali
in the first place?
