Finding anything vaguely luxurious in Rome verges upon impossibility, and given you are in this Forum, I presume you are looking for something high-end?
If so, there are but 2 options - Hotel de Russie or Portrait Suites. Everything else, in my experience, has you re-scheduling your flights to leave early.

Hi,
Thank you all for sugesstions. After more research, this is what I found
Margutta 54
Babuino 181
However, the rate isn't as high as other 5* hotels in rome but the room looks really nice. Anyone stayed there before?

Margutta 54 is in a great area, but it's more of a small apartment than hotel. The Hotel Art is on the same street, but some have said it has lost its luster. Look into the St. George Roma, Inn at the Spanish Steps or View at the Spanish Steps.

I was at the Grand Hotel Via Veneto this September, was a great experience. Good location right next to the Westin, much quieter and less hectic. Seemed to be popular with "important" Italians. The suite I was given was very large with a great bathroom. I choose this hotel for its modern art deco design and recent refit, everything was very nicely finished and in very good condition. The lobby and public areas had a very nice original art display as well.
Funny you mention leaving early, I was scheduled for 5 nights in Rome, but after 4 nights we did indeed flee to Tuscany to the Locanda dell'Amorosa in Sinalunga, couldn't cope with mayhem that is Rome.

For those who have stayed at Portrait Suites and felt it was a good value, how much were you paying relative to other higher-end hotels, such as the Russie?
For next winter, I'm being quoted for Portrait Suites 530 EUR for a 344 sq. ft. Superior Studio or 750 EUR for a 431 sq. ft. Deluxe Studio. By contrast, the Russie works out to 636 EUR for a 432 sq. ft. Deluxe Room. (All Virtuoso, and plus tax.)
For those who are familiar with Portrait Suites and feel it presents a good value, are these prices in line with what you would consider a "good value"? (I'm wondering if the hotel's popularity has gone up, diminishing any particular value advantage it held before.)
Thanks!

I'm looking for a hotel in Rome and also like modern/contemp design. I found a new hotel that will be opening in May 2011 which seems promising. Just thought I'd share with the group here.

I was just about to start a thread on Rome myself, might as well utilize this one.
I have a 3-night stay the upcoming weekend at the Hotel Majestic which is a part of LHW. Because of the beatification of John Paulus II the same weekend there was very little to choose from so I went pretty much blind with the Majestic.
Anyone have any experiences of this property?

Hotel Majestic is a Boscolo Hotel, a group that I have yet to have a good experience from. Their hotels tend to look good, but somehow they never quite live up to what I expect from a deluxe property, mainly from a service standpoint. OK, I guess if you eat out all the time.
I took a look at the website for The First Hotel and it reminded me of The Ikea catalogue.

You might be thinking of the Boscolo Palace that's located just around the corner of Via Veneto from Majestic.

But yes, I see what you mean! You are talking about http://www.hotelmajestic.com/
In which case, what are Boscolo hotels up to!
