Don't necessarily have to have the last leg out of your originating city. Try other "free flights" on different dates different cities...

In terms of math: Savings = YQ minus $ 76.14

LAX-BCN with UA metal over the water is coming up at $386 + tax. Depending on the FD city, it should be close to $450-$460 all-in. Many dates in January. Didn't try a straight turn as I am not intetrested in that.

fwiw, the UA metal flights were NYC-IAD-MUC and same on return
LH metal on MUC-MAD/BCN and same on return

apologies for the confusion

p.s. I'd still appreciate any insights on my ? respecting the reason for price doubling of W base fares to BCN/MAD
bk3day, sorry for not replying sooner, but I haven't had the opportunity to sit down and figure out the issue until now.

The simple answer is that .bomb sucks. A lot. It won't allow me to choose the required flights for the itinerary you gave me (it "bombs out" when I try to do that). I think it has some sort of segment restriction by the looks of it, but not completely sure.

However, it is bookable on the site that charges booking fees. Just make sure you choose the right fare (it is not the lowest available, since you are looking for an upgradeable W fare).

To do this, price out the whole trip on ITA, then enter your information into the booking site. Be very specific with times, dates and carriers.

Then select the fare that is the price you found on ITA + the $7 booking fee. If you are lucky, the price goes down after you select it and the ultimate price is only ~$1 more than what ITA shows.

Confirm that the UA legs are in W by viewing the fare rules (PM me if you have any trouble doing so).

Have a nice trip to MAD ^

I stumbled upon this forum via Google while searching for a cheap fare. I am not one to criticise but the little I have read of this thread reminds me of High School were the cool kids create superficial barriers to their clique to keep the others out. This breeds dislike and resentment and what eventually ends up happening is that whatever secrets were closely guarded will be revealed out of resentment. Via simple Google queries it seems to me that the only secrets being kept are exact names of airlines and stops that can be deduced through simple trial and error. The basic tricks have been around for years as described in these really old articles http://www.elliott.org/the-travel-cr...hidden-cities/ and http://www.elliott.org/the-troublesh...icket-illegal/ . The internet is an open forum, if you want to create an exclusive community go right ahead and do it or charge a fee to join, but there is no excuse for not helping newbies on a free forum that is open to everyone. What you are all trying to do is to keep the deals among a small group and with no expiration date. On the other hand if there were more people with the knowledge of how to search for these deals the number of deals available would increase since there would be a much larger group searching for them, that's how the internet works.

Fuel Surcharge is $ 270.00

Does Anyone know how to Fuel Dump IBERIA from Europe to South America ?
I am fairly good at traditional UA FD as well as FD on some AA international open -jaw itineraries and FD JJ double-open jaws Europe to Brazil. I posted all of them previously, and now hope a kind soul will be able to help me out on this one.

Message to Moderator: Fuel Dump does not necessarily mean adding a " Trick".
Simply choosing ( and actually flying ) certain open-jaws or double open-jaw itineraries will sometimes delete the YQ or otherwise drastically reduce the fare on certain booking sites and should thus IMO be considered within the spirit of FT.

I have a few naive questions regarding the BCN deal and I hope someone can shed some light. First of all, does it usually require multiple days of stay in BCN or just 1 or 2 days to turn around back? Secondly, how and what area do you book for hotel stay? Also, I assume non-US citizens (e.g., green card holders) would need apply for a visa thus should account for additional cost in time/money.

It all depends on your country of CITIZENSHIP, not residence. A spanish citizen with a U.S. green card would be a non-US citizen but would still not need a visa

A Spanish citizen without a green card, so long as they have the right passport, would not need a visa.

UA JFK-MUC

UA has a $200 base fare from NYC-MUC (that I don't think they had a couple of days ago) in L class. Strange applicability - US to Europe on Sun-Thurs, while Europe to US is allowed Mon-Thurs. Saturday night minimum, so it doesn't allow an immediate turn.

Without trying too hard, you can get this on all UA metal (if you so prefer) for under $400 ai. I'm sure the folks that are really good at this can do much better. At first glance, the SFO and LAX folks don't seem to have a similar fare offered on this one.
