Need help, need to fly to SIN this late march. Using matrix found ST EAST/WEST to SIN with decent fare + fat YQ. Need clue to properly trim it, blacksheep 3x is getting expensive
ST is my preferred but will take others if cheaper since I need to go to SIN anyway

Seien Sie vorsichtig!
I booked this ticket (SEA-LAX-ZRH-SFO-SEA) for the weekend of January 21 without any way of checking the fare class, via Vayama. I was unable to bring up the flight on ITA/Matrix. The ticket is managed/marketed by US Airways, but none of the flights are operated by them. The leg to LAX is United. The legs to Switzerland and back are SWISS (L Class), and the leg from SFO to SEA is Alaska.
United Mileage Plus gives credit for L class fares on their own flights, but not for SWISS (or the Miles and More group members). If it turns out otherwise, I will be ecstatic, but I am not planning for it. I'm basically expecting about 800 miles for the leg, making this a too-good-to-pass-this-up 73.5 cents per mile. Woo-hoo!
I have read that Miles and More will give 50% credit for L class fares on SWISS. Does anyone know if you can ask the ticket desk to credit different legs of a flight to different flier mile programs?
If so, I could sign up for Miles and More, and at least have some credit. Who knows? Perhaps they will merge programs some day. Failing that, I could possibly get a free subscription to Popular Mechanics or Austrian VOGUE. At this point, I am going to jaunt over to Vaduz and take advantage of a very expensive opportunity to get a Liechtensteiner passport stamp.
I will give a full report once I get back on what credits to my programs.
In short, be careful with this one. Should you choose to proceed, Haben Sie eine sehr gute Reise!

LAX-YVR-YUL-ZRH also seems to be valid.

Then, on your return, do the same after you get off your LX flight in the USA.

my two cents,
I am long time member but not active for various reason. Never attempted FD until recently, have to agree with some other newb, 900+ page to read is a challenge especially for me with some sort of attention deficit syndrome
anyway, long story short, I am able to piece some puzzle but still stuck at some weird stuff like Cx , 3X etc. its probably obvious to some but I completely dont get it
but thanks to BryanIAH for Cx tips and I can see a little better now and things start to fall in place.
Since I am still in the learning mode, I am not able to contribute at all. I am just trying to understand the post to see if I can somehow replicate the deal. I am a much better learner by example
In my opinion, by posting FAQ for the most common abbreviation or basic info will eliminate most of the noob questions like Cx , alliances, booking engine and perhaps 3X etc. Clues to airport code and how to actually get it can remain cryptic so all reader still need to invest some time to figure it out. Those who dont want then it will remain cryptic
with that said, I am in the need of couple MRs on ST to meet my status ... if any of you have ST deals that you can share please feel free to pm me even in cryptic mode or post here

Which will not earn mileage on United Mileage Plus. Does anyone know how to tell the fare class on Vayama without purchasing?
EDIT: it seems that you can get S or T for $50-70 more per direction, but I am guessing the only way to get those on Vayama would be by judicious selection of days of travel.

For example, the SFO-ZRH leg on LX is showing as "LLWNC22S" so it's an "L" class ticket.

YVR-Guangzhou (CAN) $583 AI- Mixed Carriers; Vayama
This *might* be more suitable in the trick it thread(move it if necessary) or maybe the good deals Economy thread. On Vayama there's some very cheap fares to Guangzhou. It is a mixed bag of carriers via LAX(AA codeshare with westjet, or Air Canada) then connecting to China Southern. So miles earning might be tricky.
Example: April 11-18th. There are various dates March-May and Sep-Oct.
credit to an old post from yvrdeals for the find.

As I only fly on *, I can trim 80%, but it is a costly strike and in the end only save half of the fat. Any improvement ?

I'm guessing vayama is stumbling onto a fuel dump to get these fares.
The YQ is about $470 otherwise.

Happy New Year to all the contributors in the Trick It Lounge Thread.
Please keep on topic; this thread is largely left alone as a lounge thread, but if discussion breaches the FT Rules, the thread becomes useless for its purpose.
I expect that some other tricks posted in error to MR Deals will be moved across soon.
Cheers,

Also, it only earnt 50% miles on DL/FB on the NRT-CAN segments and nothing on the YVR-LAX segments.
It was also available from YYC I believe.
