Send in the clowns...

This gaffe has just focused attention on the bigger problem with the TSA--they are a bunch of non-professional hacks with little ambition but to carry real guns and exercise their authority.

Has anyone noticed their attitudes have ramped up since they took over boarding pass inspections? "Show me your papers!" And this woman was flipping burgers how long ago?

This will keep escalating. I have respect for authority--but within reason. The TSA will keep growing and becoming more of a characture of itself.

Ever notice how local police SWAT team members show up in full jungle camoflage outfits and assault weapons for standoffs in Walmart parking lots? The same thing is going on here....

They constantly fail to find Red Team items but are going to scan the faces of children instead of Spotting the terrorists. I don't recall a non-custodial parent ever trying to light their shoe on a plane, and IIRC no child travelling with the wrong parent in a contested divorce ever tried to hijack a plane and fly it into a building.
I disagree, the Amber Alert watches may be the ONLY thing that the TSA does that is worthwhile.

bet the terriosts are now looking at this and trying to firgure out how they can use this information.
Yay, way to go to the vigilant FTers who broke this news. I apprecate those of you who "kept the pressure on" to get your 15 minutes of fame and punish those meanies in the TSA. The way you made that document available to the world is really gonna show "those idiots!"

I cant imagine anyone else is taking advantage of this plethora of information.

According to the security experts the most damning thing in the whole SOP was the fact the x-ray can't image wire smaller than 24 gauge. Guess what, and this will slay you.

The governments that sponsor terrorist already know the specs on the x-ray because the use the same units in their own airports.

Be grateful that the SOP that was foolishly left unguarded for 9 months was only the Management SOP and not the more important SOPs for screening and luggage screening.

Think about this, the document was discovered by someone looking for something else. It was an accident.

Do you really think the U.S. is the only country that pays people to ferret out this type of information? How many times in the last 9 months do you think the document has been read and studied by terrorists and the countries that sponsor them?

Yeah we exposed a HUGE hole in the TSA's security and in their redaction policy. Hopefully this will cause them to verify EVERY SSI redacted document they have placed for public access. Hell some of those redacted documents may be of value to the terrorist, this document isn't.

You can thank us later for keeping you safe at the airport.

p.s. Out of curiosity I did a quick search via Google to find other poorly redacted documents. Within 8 minutes I found one that was partially redacted.

How many documents do you think I could find if I spent a full day on the chore?

I agree. It is only a matter of time before TSA and DHS ask Congress to make TSO's accredited LEO's with guns and real badges.

And then we'll have the real life version of Eric Cartman, duplicated a thousandfold.

Instead of folks being tasered at checkpoints you would see wheelchair bound folks getting shot out of their chair for making objections to the screening process. I put nothing out of the realm of possibilities when dealing with an out of control, answerable to no one agency.

TSA already has LEO's, FAM's. Even though if you ask a FAM they will vehemently deny that they are part of the TSA. I believe the FAM service would fight tooth and nail to keep TSO's from being armed. My opinion.

Perhaps they should compromise and issue them Super Soakers. After all, they collect plenty of ammo.

Security theater issued appropriately theatric weapons. Good idea. No one gets hurt and the security theater performance continues unhindered.

I wonder what the qualifying standards would be on a Super Soaker range... 80% saturation?

That was pretty funny. It put together a number of pieces tightly with good pacing on Jon Stewart's part.

Identity Project analysis and pending FOIA requests

The Identity Project has posted an analysis of what we think is significant about the Screening Management SOP (including a comparison with the redacted excerpts we obtained earlier under FOIA) and an update on our pending FOIA appeal for the current Screening Management SOP and our other pending FOIA requests for other screening SOPs and related documents:
