It once was possible to SDC indefinitely even at a middle point. Now if you are out of certain window (24 hours from the original arrival at the middle point), it shows "No more available flights".

I think by "cash upgrading" your flight to PP, you have changed your flight. Therefore the original upgrade request will be cancelled. You will need to reapply the pp to upgrade from PP to Polaris....
