No, the T1 AirTrain station is closed. The Intl A AirTrain station is now called “International A/Terminal 1” and includes signage towards T1. Yes, you could enter Intl A security and walk airside to T1.

Though it's probably quicker to walk landside from A to B.

The garage is currently a mess due to construction so I wouldn't recommend cutting across.

How about from DL's T1 to T2 for AS? Can I just walk outside, or is there a connector? Or, is the connector thing only for T2 - T3?

Thanks, again. I'm just completely not up to speed on the facelift going on.

DL is still in the same C pier but at least temporarily, that is called part of T2, with an airside connector (and currently, the only open security checkpoint is at the real entry to T2.)

Weird how C moved from T1 to T2 while staying in exactly the same place. I think they should drop the numbers completely -- the letters A-G are clear enough. Key thing for visitors to understand is that A and B are connected airside, and so are C, D, E, F and G. Eventually the B-C airside corridor will be completed, and all gates will be connected airside, but that's not anytime soon.

It was driven by the physical access and check-in situation. With the T1 north ticketing lobby closed, the only way to access C is via the T2 lobby. Similarly, DL check-in is now at the north end of the T2 lobby. It would cause massive confusion if they continued to call C T1 when every single passenger flying out of C has to enter via T2.

I think part of T2 actually moved to C ;)

Once all the gate areas are finally connected, not sure if it will continue to make sense to couple gate letters with terminal numbers.

I’ve been considering the terminal numbers as purely landside designations, and gate letters as purely airside designations.

And an incredible mishmash crapshow for anyone trying to connect in SFO.

Not really - if you know your connection gate by Letter and Number, it should be easy. If you know your connection by Terminal and number, well, Zai gezunt.

So how does one go airside from Terminal A, no wait Terminal 1, Concourse Gate A13 to Terminal 3, Gate F19?

Obviously one can't given the state of construction, although I'm not sure how any SFO terminal/gate naming convention could make this atypical transfer any smoother.

I'm also noticing more of the airport wayfinding signage refers to the Gate letter prefix rather than Terminal 1/2/3.

Yes, I'd say management is way ahead of us, clearly moving towards labeling based on concourses rather than terminals. It's a very well run airport (ignoring the payoff scandals).

RE: Confusion

While only speaking for myself, I often get confused at airports even when it's my home one, and that's ok since I've gotten used to it. Both DL/WN had been in T1 prior, but now DL is T2, while WN remains in T1. So, this of course, causes me some confusion but easily sorted out with a simple explanation from above.

I've accepted that I'll just get lost the first time, then know better next time. For example, when I disembarked from WN, I had just assumed you call rideshare in that little garage area until I realized it was gone! So, no problem; just cancel, and call for the pickup--Black or Comfort--on the curb.

If they say the A --> G will make things easier, I'll take their word for it. Though for me, and I've been using SFO my entire life, I really don't see it as any obvious benefit, but one of those things I can easily get used to. To me, doesn't really matter, either way.

How long did it take for you to recover from South / Central (International) / North Terminal designations? ;)
