Thank you. Is it possible to reach Int'l Terminal A from Terminal 1 land-side? The SFO airport map indicates the section between the two terminals is under construction.

The only way is to walk around the airport in the opposite direction - probably a 20 minute walk. You can also cut through the domestic parking lot from T1 to T3 and then head to the International Terminal from T3, but I'd just walk around.

YVR-SFO-LAX with 55 Minute Connection Terminal 3-2
Hi all,
I have an upcoming trip and just noticed I'll need to exit security and be screened again with a 55 minute connection at SFO. Coming in on UA618 arriving at 0843 and connecting to AA2891 departing 0938. Later in the day I'll be taking LA2477 to Lima. We have a checked bag. YVR-SFO on UA SFO-LAX on AA LAX-LIM on LA I booked this ticket a long, long time ago before AA and LA cut ties, and now I suspect getting rebooked could be messy. Do you think this connecting at SFO is possible, or should I call AA and see if a friendly agent will rebook on the direct YVR-LAX flight that morning.....? Thanks in advance. |

If your inbound is at least very close to on-time, and if the lines are security aren't too long, and if you don't get lost, then it's certainly doable, but it won't be fun.

Technically this is a legal connection (50 minutes for a domestic-to-domestic, which is what this would likely be classified as due to immigration pre-clearance), but it's extremely risky. Firstly if you have bags you're relying on UA to correctly check your them through to AA, which they should be able to do, but if they don't you're done. And even if they do, there's a non-zero chance your bags won't make the connection.

Who did you actually buy the ticket from, as that's who you'll need to call. (AA if the ticket number starts with 001, UA if it's 016, Latam if it's 045). And yes, I'd be calling. And if they say no, hang up and call again! I've transited SFO a few times so hopefully I wont make any wrong turns. We're in business class also so getting off first should help. I believe UA618 is the first or second flight out of YVR and the on-time performance is decent, so maybe the stars will align if I can't get the ticket changed. |
What are the cost and inconvenience impacts if you don't make the connection at SFO? If it was me, if the impacts are significant, and if I couldn't get UA to rebook, then I would consider booking myself on one of the 3 non-stop YVR-LAX flights that leave YVR before 09:00. One-way economy prices for flights next week are currently floating around as follows: AirCanada C$141, United C$191 (AC operated flight), Westjet C$161, Delta C$191 (Westjet operated flight), and American C$141 (operated by Compass as Eagle.)

While the idea of booking another flight for cheap is interesting, I'm almost sure this would result in the rest of my flight segments being cancelled as first would be marked as a no-show. |
My mistake - my thinking was clouded by the context of my next trip through SFO, YVR-SFO on Airmiles/Westjet and SFO-MEL-CNS on Qantas business. Booked nearly a year ahead to get award seats transpacific in business, it will now have to wait another year. Good luck with your flights given the chaotic flight changes and travel restrictions being implemented.

I've done something rash and booked a 1hr55m UA international to UA domestic connection at SFO. I didn't notice there was a terminal change.
It looks like the international terminal is right next to the domestic one. I assume I do immigration then collect my bags, follow connections, recheck my bag, exit the terminal, turn left and go into the domestic terminal and then do security again before I can meet make my flight. There are two more flights that evening to my final destination so its not the end of the world if I don't make it, i would just prefer not to look like an amateur when I get there. |

Although it is my home airport and I don't connect here, I think the signage is pretty clear, and the airport is very easy to navigate. |

Is this one ticket? If so, there should be a baggage drop for the already checked through luggage. You then go back upstairs and have your choice of the International security checkpoint (G gates, where you'll be arriving) or the T3 checkpoint. I'd head to the G gates checkpoint first, and if there's a short line, use that, and there's airside connections to any UA gate. If separate tix, see if the agent at the departure point will check through.

Not sure how new this is, but I had some time to kill after arriving today and noticed while wandering around that the landside connector between IntlA and T1B is open again. So currently it is just B<->C that requires using AirTrain or detouring into the garage.

This is a bit confusing given a lot of misinformation online. Is 1B connected airside to 2D?

(There is an airside connection from C to D, but not B to C) |
