As we locals know, if anything goes seriously wrong on one of the bridges, you want to know about that in real time. There usually are work-arounds, though they'll be much slower than your normal route.

I live in the Berkeley Hills. If I'm flying out of SFO, my preferred route is to get on I-80 at Buchanan and take the Bay Bridge. Over the years, I've heard some nasty traffic reports on that route, so I take I-880 South to the San Mateo Bridge and go north on US-101 to SFO.

Well, that onramp was closed for part of yesterday due to flooding. Meanwhile, you couldn't get to SFO for part of the day on 101 due to more serious flooding.

I've also taken 880S to 92W to 101N when the normal route is suffering atrocious traffic.

Meanwhile, hopefully a lot of the "protesters" have been washed away and won't be interrupting the highways anytime soon.

When I go to SFO straight from the A's game the difference in time between the Bay Bridge and the San Mateo is negligible. It's always a decision based on traffic conditions.
