If you don't mind being 30 mins out by BART you should look at Walnut Creek, Concord and Pleasant Hill which all have major hotels, some adjoining BART.

tom gives some good info
you might try booking a refundable room in WC etc and then keep checking as the time gets closer. Sometimes rooms are released closer to the date if corporate folks don't use them.
