After the deal is over (usually the next day) you'll get an email that your voucher is ready to print. It has a unique number on it and the establishment has a list of valid vouchers.
The best ones are when you trade it in and get a gift card, because the gift card will cover taxes, and you can use only part of it and return. Be aware of what the actually voucher is for, many times you'll see a pay $20 for a $45 voucher, only to find typical dinner would cost $30-$35 per person. So unless you go alone, you'll have to spend more.
Both sites, (livingsocial and groupon) appear to have a good return policy, I ordered a meal delivery service once and it was so popular I would have to wait about three months to get the food. I called Groupon and they offered to refund my order.
If you are new to either of them, I would appreciate you using my referral link, for livingsocial using my link will get you a $5 credit after your first purchase.

It looks like the nearest metro area is just starting up but I travel quite a bit so I also added Atlanta and their offer looks fab for today ($30 in food for $15 at Kozmo Gastro Pub in Alpharetta) ...now I just have to learn my way around Atlanta a little better.
I signed up ( Groupon only) using Climbguy's referral link so I believe that makes me next in line for anyone new to use my link

This is my first time to post a referral link so if I am not following the correct procedure someone please feel free to let me know. Thanks!

thanks for using my link! Please keep in mind you need to buy a groupon before it 'counts.'

Climbguy, I am watching ATL, L.A., and NOLA in addition to waiting on the BHM site to become live....so I should be buying a groupon in the near future.
Also, DrG- seems like the jump in might have just been an innocent mistake....or maybe he signed up under you..might want to ask to clarify. I can't see where you've signed up under my referral yet and I guess it's due to the fact you have to buy a Groupon to count.

I did not intend to sound accusatory or hostile. His post was worded as if a referral link previously.
In any case, thenelsons - I did make a groupon purchase late yesterday after signing up using your referral link. Hopefully you see your bonus soon.

Tone is so hard to determine on the computer but I didn't think you were hostile DrG- I thought the same thing. I went to see the other poster's history and noticed that had never happened before so figured it was innocent.

I took advantage of a great deal in the Northern VA area yesterday. $15 for free tasting at a (good) winery and a $30 credit in the tasting room.
