End of year ~600 MCR will be worth around $25 in various gift cards, while the HH redemption is around 800 MCR for what I estimate to be around $4 to $6 on a good day. You do the math.

I'm really only interested in Airlines, Hotels, or Electronics as I walk to work and just don't drive all that much (i.e., no gas cards). Well dining and alcohol would be good as well, but I try to stay away from chain restaurants.

Would the above be part of the mix, or do you guys trade GCs for others.

Suppose I can also scan last year's December posts to see if deals were posted here @:-)

Good point. I agree. A waste of good MCR points.

Thank you bongobadge and Mauibaby2008 as well as all who chimed in ^

Like I said, I was worried about devaluation (I am a UA flier, so you may understand  ), perhaps even discontinuation of GCs.

I will probably use a few points to top up my HH account to a nice even number and patiently wait for EoY :)

Unless you're needing hh points for a redemption I would not redeem for hh points. Terrible redemption value

+1 Just noticed HHonors was back in stock (only current option for hotel points). But thanks to devaluation I am done with HHonors. If you value HHonors @ a generous .004 per point, you will be getting $6 worth of points for 800 MCR = .0075 per MCR. That's pretty weak when you can get 1-2 cents per point elsewhere or even better.

I know the value is weak, but mcr points aren't doing me any good sitting there. So I went with 4500 hh points.

I'm in the camp that the best value redemption is one you've got an active use for, so if you're a Hilton person, far better to go for the in theory low return rate instead of spending them on a higher return option that doesn't suit your plans. No matter how good of a deal a Domino's pizza GC is, I'll never redeem for one because I hate their pizza, and I don't e-Bay and such so it's not convenient for me to try to swap it for something I would use.

My thoughts, exactly. Thanks for saying it so well, Beachmouse!

Totally agree on this one. I usually have a plan for where I want to go and where I want to stay. I then hone in on those things that will maximize my miles and points within my plan.

Does this work for everyone? No. But it works for me.

I'm still saving mine for this years Holiday Catalog. Bring on the gift cards.

Well, methinks it will work out just fine. I also get HH points from e-rewards and e-miles, and more than any of that, I use the Hilton family as my secondary hotel (used to be primary, but with the devaluation and no lifetime program, I switched to Starwood; but Starwood's network is not so extensive).

Have gotten plenty of free nights using HH points over the years, including a week in Hawaii for my parents, although things have definitely slowed since the switch to Starwood. But anything that gets me to my goal quicker works for me. tls

If you get the HHonors points, be sure to get them in 500-point increments. Those are 225 MCR points whereas the 1,500 point lot is 800 MCR points. Baffling.

500 HH now showing as out of stock

EmailKid Oct 29, 2013 4:38 pm

Well, I'm sitting on 149,101 Total HHonors Points, so two times 500 points would round up the total nicely since I don't anticipate any paid stays anytime soon.

Read on SD that (all variants of) Coke Zero 12 pack flaps get you 7 bonus points. Why 7 instead of 10 for a true doubling, I have no idea. Good through 11/3?
