There is a bit of difference between getting comped or getting discounted rates by bartering or being a frequent flyer, and ripping off hotels. This person is a thief.

Perhaps a tad harsh; I detect a bit of tongue in cheek in this anecdote, but we may never know for sure.

Heh. So, the OP stole an article about gettings things for free and gave it away for free on Flyertalk? Would the author object?

Probably not. But it's the NY Times that holds the copyright, not the author. The point is that this type of posting is against Flyertalk rules.

It was a news article and she credited the source. Seems like that fits into the rule.

Simply creditting the source doesn't give you the freedom to print/post it where you feel like it.

On another msg board I frequent, you'll get a warning and possible expulsion from the moderators for copying entire articles or entire song lyrics.

So if you want to quote "Hey Jude" it's best to leave out the "Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah" part.

Randy's rule is you can post a few lines & then a link to the article. Anything more than that can violate copyright & thus violates FT's TOS.
