Just in case anyone is wondering, I filled out this form about 3 weeks ago and today received my discount card in the mail. It is valid for two years and entitles me to the following:

20% off on puchases up to $1000
25% off on purchases over $1000
5% off on single puchases of gift cards over $1000

Discount "does not apply to periodicals, gift certificates, cafe items, electronics, DVDs, previous purchases, tickets, shipping, or donations. Cannot be combined with merchandise that is on sale or already discounted."

Nonetheless, looks like it might be useful for those times when I want to buy something and don't have a coupon. Thanks to the OP of this info!

High School and College Students with ID - Max. 20% Off

You can also call CS and tell them that you are a student to get similar offers to order online. I have done this in the past without a problem.

Really late to the party on this one, but just wanted to clarify: Borders used to be owned by Kmart years and years ago, but I worked for them 1994-2000 and they are publicly traded under BGP. We had really nice stock options! They are their own company and have both Borders and Waldenbooks divisions.

I missed that reference way back when, or I would have corrected it. Yes, Kmart in their infinite wisdom  bought Borders back in the....80s, I think, as well as Waldenbooks. Later they were spun out together as Borders Group Inc. Kmart also owned OfficeMax for a while. Borders was appealing because of their inventory expertise. At the time there was little out there that rivaled their system of automatic reordering of stock and tracking of trends. Now, though, from what I've heard they've put very little effort into it since that long ago time.

Still, though that poster was incorrect about the current ownership, the sentiment of "not like supporting your local bookseller" is certainly true. I do find it the best of the chains, and in some places that's about all you can do because there aren't many indie stores around.

If you want a store that's still fairly indie but with a Borders sort of format, try these guys http://www.josephbeth.com/ Only works in a few cities, though. Trivia: the "Beth" in Joseph-Beth is Mary Beth Borders, of that same family. Caused no end of trouble, even though Borders is a public company. Apparently there's still some family involvement there. Bet they don't get invited to Thanksgiving. ;) Other than that you have your famous big indie stores like Powell's, etc.

I think that there was like a Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie made about this. :p

Not that I would admit to having seen it.

Your 30% coupon requires those to be signed up for Borders Rewards. The 25% / 10% coupon does not.

I purchased a magazine at a local Borders and got a coupon for 30% off 1 regular price of 1 item, valid 12/15-12/18/2005.

For electronics/video games: 10%

Plus the usual exclusions.

I made a purchase yesterday and received the same coupon.
Question: Does Borders typically send the same coupons in their emails as the coupons that print out at the registers? I'd like another one of these.

Unethical people would buy full price items, get those register coupons, and return the original items later.

Off to finish polishing my halo now ...

Generally, no.

But, you can always buy a newspaper or a cheap magazine to see if you get another one.
