Thanks, mashav!

I'm wondering how different New Orleans looks now than from when we were all at the Flyertalk Do there a few years back...

mashav Aug 30, 2005 11:48 am

I am wondering the same thing. Rachel's blog gives a very moving perspective.

I love these discount coupons from Borders! They've taken all of my business away from Barnes and Nobles.

Mateo4321 Sep 3, 2005 5:14 pm

Could you use this coupon on books that have to be ordered? (I'm thinking textbooks for school  )

I have changed the title of this thread to just "Borders Coupons". We start a new thread almost every week for Borders Coupns. From now on, lets keep them in this thread only.

Thanks for the Borders discounts!

I went to Borders today and they had photocopies of these coupons at the coutner. I didn't know about them  and I almost didn't see them but I had no problem using them, they do ask for a student ID.

Boraxo Sep 8, 2005 3:44 pm

A big thank you!

These coupons are great, please keep posting them.

A reminder to everyone: be sure to check your book prices on Amazon prior to your trip to Borders. I find that Amazon discounts most of the popular paperbacks by 32%, plus there is no sales tax and free shipping. However, these Borders coupons are great if you need a book immediately or if the Amazon discount is too low. BTW, Borders is owned by Kmart (now Sears?) so it is not like supporting your local bookseller.

Thanks for posting the 30% off coupon. I can now buy a book at the local Borders for about the same price as Amazon.com and don't have to pay for shipping. Of course, the cost of the gas to get to Borders, hoy vey (did I spell that right?).

just a thought but where the numerous "borders" threads have now been consolidated into this one and it appears that this thread will be updated as warranted, could this be made a sticky? my reason for asking is that i enjoy printing out the certs, making copies and giving them to the flight crews as a little thank you (in addition to the tootsie pops ;)) but sometimes in my haste (and old age ;)), i can't find the thread as it might have dropped to a 2nd or 3rd page. just a thought and thanks to the op for the contribution ^

I bought a book from Amazon.COm, the free shipping stated 10 days to receive the book. I received an E-mail that it shipped on 10/14 and expect to receive it on the 28th. Is this normal? It went out USPS, I've never heard of a 14 day option for shipping:(.

The post office is pretty slow with parcels. And if they mean 10 business days, that would be 2 weeks.

/Begin slightly OT rant: Since Amazon instituted the program for $75 for second day shipping, it's taking them a lot longer (in my experience) to push the free shipping orders out the door. I'm 99% sure that they would say that they are focusing their efforts on those orders that are part of $75 program, but I suspect there may be a conscious effort to slow down the free deliveries to encourage people to sign up for the program. /rant

Amazon probably gave you a USPS tracking number, so that you can see when the PO actually received the package and its progress. The time to receive will probably be primarily a factor of the distance between you and Amazon's warehouse. The 10 days after shipping is probably just Amazon's outside estimate of the time for the USPS to deliver such packages to anyone in the US.

MarkW Oct 15, 2005 12:28 pm

I was in a Borders recently and was told that if I called a 1-800 number and answered a survey, I would get a discount coupon. (Naturally, I lost the number.) Are the coupons posted here the same ones offered that are offered for the survey?

I have had nothing but excellent service from Amazon and the used book sellers that also sell on Amazon. Usually the books ship well before the expected ship date and arrive within 2-4 days on UPS. It is far preferable to waiting in line, not to mention no sales tax (8.5% in SF) and the usual 30% discount. Hard to beat, unless you need it immediately. ;)

the 15% 10/31/05 link now gives an 11/30/05 coupon :D

These are mostly coupons they send if you sign up for their rewards program. The surveys are different.

Corporate and Educational card

Borders has a Corporate and Educational Sales Program- if you own a small business you can pick up an application at any Borders store. (usually near the info desk) Send it in and in a few weeks you'll get cards for yourself and any employees you designate. It gives a discount (iirc it's 20%) on books. No discount on magazines or coffee. They have two categories, "discount only membership" and another which I believe is a revolving credit account.

I don't know what the educational half of the program is, perhaps teachers can also get a similar discount.

CrazyOne Oct 20, 2005 8:25 pm

The discount also doesn't apply to DVDs, which is unfortunate since they insist upon charging so much for them. The 25% off one item coupons do (at least most of the time) work for DVDs.

The info is all online right here http://www.bordersstores.com/bbps/welcome.jsp and you can apply online. One of the required fields on the application form is Federal TIN or DUNS number. I don't know if they verify it for matching the business name and all or just hold onto it.

Standard Borders locations (not the ex-Waldenbooks Borders Express) should have someone in the store in the role of Corporate Sales Rep. You can get a direct phone number to this person to place orders to be picked up (or they can be shipped to you, but you have to pay shipping). The quality of these people can vary widely, though (just like the rest of the retail workers in there). The one that I live with ;) happens to also know a great deal about books and came to the role from a book background rather than a sales background. These type of people are still out there in the stores, though they may be harder to find now.

Anyway, point is, you can have a personal rep if you want one. Or you can just wander into the store, pick out what you want, and present the discount card at checkout. I can try (but can't promise) to get questions about Borders answered if you have any.
