I haven't visited restaurant.com in about a year. I am shocked to see the amount of restrictions that they now put on the "gift certificates" (I use that term very loosely). One of my favorite places that I had used a number of $25 certificates on last year now has additional restrictions of:
- $50 minimum food purchase (other places are now up to $35) - only valid for dinner - not valid Fri/Sat - 18% gratuity added before discount on top of the restriction that requires the $$$ to be applied only to the food purchase. Whereas you used to be able to save over 60% on your *total* bill, savings are now in the 20-30% range. Not bad, but hardly spectacular, since Diners Club and others will give you 20% cash back on your total bill (including alcohol and tip) at hundreds of restaurants anyway... |

I finally tried a "new" place Saturday w/one of my certificates. It was nice and while they are no longer in the program, they DID honor my certificate. The waiter seemed a bit surprised and said he hadn't seen one in quite awhile. That's because I bought it in 11/2004 :D In California, they never expire ^ I wouldn't have been shocked if the manager came & said they aren't accepting them any longer....but it was accepted with no qualms ;)
I have also had the occasional email from restaurant.com stating that a restaurant was no longer participating and offering me a credit for unused certs. Also as mentioned above, a couple of places that we do like still participate but have upped the minimum food purchase to $50 :rolleyes: Fortunately, there are still allot of participating places in our area :) |
