The idea that Paypal gave anyone's information out is ridiculous. When have you ever given that e-mail out before? Have you ever sold anything to anyone or made a payment to anyone you don't know? These are all ways someone could have received your e-mail address.

Also, if it's a common e-mail address, such as paypal@, they may have just guessed it.

I don't think that's really the point.

The possibility exists, as I mentioned earlier, that someone employed by PayPal or eBay STOLE the e-mail addresses and sold them to spammers/phishers. It happened with AOL, and it's probably happening with other large companies as well.

How is it impossible for something to leak out of Paypal? Everyone knows they have lax security at best. They basically freeze anyone's account that they suspect of any wrongdoing. How is that any form of security? It is impossible for people to guess 1 of my accounts and not all 7 of them. The statistical probability that the phisers just guessed the right address for my paypal account and not my other 6 accounts is slim to none.

I dont know if paypal has leaked something out, or if the phisers are running somekind of program. Either way, paypal needs to stepup.

Ebay and Paypal are perhaps the worst big companies of the world!

As stated in my subject line - forget about SECURITY even in terms of CUSTOMER SERVICE I don't think I have ever came across any worse two companies in the world and I do do business with lots of companies. They provide canned responses and are NOT genuinely concerned about customer service as they are a MONOPOLY. They know customers cannot go anywhere else, they have become a brand name and their stock prices have gone into stratospheres, revenues keep rolling in so need to worry about anything, just keep operating in a self-fulfilling arrogance and prophecy!

Here are specific examples for my rant:

- Once my ebay anything points did not post to Paypal even though I had recd. a confirmation that I had infact been awarded those points by the third party. It took 15 emails, over 45 days and threats to take them to BBB that they finally resolved the issue - otherwise they just kept dodging me - go to Payapl their fault, go to Ebay their fault - go to anything points - go to third party etc.

- Paypal would not let me pay through my credit card for a purchase because I had sufficent funds (in US $) in my account to pay for a Canadian purchase. But why should I convert my US $ into CDN $ and in the process give Paypal a nice comission to increase their revenues when I can pay through my Canadian credit card on my profile that is validated and all set-up and my purchase is in Canadian dollars.

I could go on and on, and there is nothing short of a mass boycott and class action law suit by millions of customers will make them realize that they are in business because of their customers and not because of themselves!!

There is a process some of the spidering software used to extract PayPal email addresses when those were previously hidden in HTML FORM elements to determine who should be paid for the transaction. PayPal finally changed that but not before a lot of addresses were picked up.

I wish that some government agency would regulate them the same way the regulate banks. Its just a matter of time before the IRS gets involved. I am sure that millions of dollars is being laundered thru them.
