Anyone thinking about getting the Marriott Visa?
Pardon me while I shamelessly honk for a referral bonus (isn't that what this board is for?):
The card is a First USA Marriott Rewards Visa Signature Card. 10,000 point sign-up bonus. 1 MR pt/dollar spent. 3 MR pts/dollar spent at Marriott properties (whether for stays, meals, incidentals, or whatever). No fee 1st year, $30/year after that. Interest rate is Prime+9.9 (currently a little over 14%.
Most important perk of all: you get Marriott Silver Elite status automatically when you get the card. If you are the type that does a couple stays a year in the hotels, but doesn't usually qualify the normal way, this is a nice perk. Silver status doesn't exactly get you onto J.W. Marriott's Christmas card list, but you do get a bit nicer treatment at the hotels, access to an elite reservations line, 15% point bonuses on stays, and priority treatment in getting your room preferences (nonsmoking, king bed, etc.). Room category upgrades are not included with Silver status, but every now and then they throw one in. If you like to grovel for upgrades at check-in, having Silver status doesn't hurt.
Your benefits, terms, conditions, and bonuses are the same whether or not a referral is involved. I get 5000 MR points for each referral, up to 3 referral.
If you are interested, please email me...

While "shamelessly honking" on the SPAM forum for a referral bonus, you could at least post a link to the original Marriott forum thread on this topic:

Sorry. It must have just been coincidence that no one ever posted anything on FT about this promo on FT before -- then a couple hours after I posted it (and having known about it for two weeks since I received my bill), a second thread was started
It seemed to me a link was appropriate.

Was this a time limited offer please? I have a friend who wants me to refer him. I called the number on my Visa card and they knew nothing about a promo for referrals. Thanks!

It, as you probably know, comes and goes, in various forms. Presumably the applicant need only call 1-888-218-7309, provide a referrer's name & MRs number as instructed.
The best available was/is supposedly 10K points with the first use/purchase with NO Annual fee during the first year!
I too have had one for some time now and would naturally be most pleased to refer any interested parties as necessary!
---
Looked around a bit more and noted that 5000 miles should be available at:
http://www.usbank.com/worldperks214
(this reference was in a recent NW mileage statement mailing) and it said it is good thru July 31 '02!
Hope this helps!

No thanx; I like my *wood Amex &HHonors Visa much better!
Charge $7000 on *wood Amex & earn 2 free nights at Westin in: Calgary, Pittsburgh, Puerto Vallarta, or Sheraton in: Cleveland, Montreal, Puerto Vallarta...
However, if one charges $7500 on the Marriott Visa, one earns one free night at...
[TA-DA] CERTAIN FAIRFIELD INNS!
