The drawing will be held on Friday, April 19, 2002 during the 8th Annual Tour of Taste at the Fairmont Hotel. Raffle tickets are $100 each. Only 1300 tickets will be sold. You need not be present to win.

Since a new T-bird costs under $40k, you are paying $100 for an expected value of $40k/1300 = $31. What am I missing?

Quiet Lion - This appears to be a raffle sponsored by KERA. I didn't know who KERA was, so I looked it up:

Public Broadcasting for North Texas KERA 13, KERA 90.1 and KERA 2 are the public radio and television stations for North Texas, touching the lives of 3.2 million viewers and listeners every week. KERA 13 consistently ranks as one of the most-watched public television station in the country.

My guess is that some body donated the car (which they will get a tax write-off for) and that KERA will raise $130,000 by raffling off 1,300 tickets at $100 a piece.

We've got the same thing going on here. Only it is for multiple charities. (I think 10) The car is the 2002 T-bird Neiman Marcus edition. I think that narrows down who is donating it. The local Ford Dealer is getting lots of publicity from it.
