Email from Goldpoints

After goldpoints removed almost half of their shopping vendors from their site, I sent a note indicating that while GP was a good program, it is now virtually useless. This is the reply I got:

Dear Mary,

Thank You for contacting the Gold Points Rewards Call Center. Our online Broker has changed and the affiliates that belonged to this certain online Broker have been removed from the website. However, our new online Broker service will have new affiliates joining our Gold Points program effective beginning of April 2002. Please continue to
access our website and view all our new partners.

Thank you,

XXXX
Gold Points Service Center Team

A reasonable explanation of why those got pulled, but will the new broker be any good?

Goldpoints was terrific before the latest pull out. Let's all hope that new merchants are coming and we can continue shopping thru this site.

I am also glad that you posted this. I had just gone to buy some books from one of the gold points vendors and saw that the site had been decimated. I am starting to wonder if the online part will stay active. I am sure that the chance of getting other vendors on the site is based on its ability to push sales. Is goldpoints starting a slow decline?

They really should post an explanation ON the site. Although even with the advantage of being able to read posts from the sharp minds on Flyertalk, I know I'm holding off on buying anything until my current points post and I'm sure the program is viable.

Cactus Pete -- I meant that there should be some explanation on the GOLD POINTS forum. It's bizarre to show up there and find that more than a dozen merchants I've used in the past have gone bye-bye without a trace.

Oh. That, however, seems highly unlikely. Since when does any business publicize its impending doom?
