Of Crowne Rooms and Ball Games on UAL - a pseudo-OMNI post

Jst back from a week in SFO/SLC/DEN. Two worthy comments:

1) in SLC, no RCC, so tried the new reciprical deal with Crowne Room. Although I had to walk to the next terminal to get to the thing, I was VERY impressed. I guesstimated about twice the nember of phones as a RCC of similar size, a BIG SCREEN TV on which to watch a piece of Game 2 of the series and (until Jan. 1, 1999) free drinks. (The free martini tasted so good that I decided to have three!!! Then they tell me that elite fliers get in for free???? You delta folks have got it made!!!!

2) Back in Unitedland, on the SLC-DEN Flight, the Shuttle by United pilot tuned channel 9 to a local simulcast of ESPN Radio's coverage of Game 2. When the SLC station faded out somewhere over the rockies, he tuned in the same simulcast on a Colorado Springs station for the remainder of the flight. Nice touch!

I'm not a member of a club but I frequently get free passes to the NW WorldClubs. The new club in Seattle is beautful. Only open for a couple of months, it is furnished in a northwestern style decor complete with evergreen trees. Free drinks and lots of tasty snacks available.

In my humble opinion, nothing beats the KLM club in Amsterdam! I could live in that club....

Actually, only Platinum Medallion members get free access ... us lowly Gold Medallion members still have to pay. I probably will not renew my membership next year now that there are no more free alcoholic refreshments and I anticipate less travel in the future overall because of different projects at work.

I guess this means that I can use the RCC's when I'm in Chicago next month flying United then since I'm a CRC member? I've heard conflicting reports whether that was a go/no go, but from your experience it sounds like the reciprocal access is a go ...

Beckles: I had the same concern, but when I showed my rcc card to the lady at the door and sheepishly asked if that card got me in, she gave me a big smile and said, "It sure does!"

Well, I hope it works I'll let y'all know next month ...

Between my CRC membership and AMEX Platinum card I now have access to NW, CO, DL, and UA clubs ... If only I could figure out how to get AA without paying I'd be totally set!
