I got an answer to such an email, but it was just a message telling me to read their FAQ, which doesn't answer the question of course.

weird. very weird. did they find a buyer like mypoints? or just got inundated by emails and decided to leave the site up despite going down?
First they were featured on ****edcompany.com as not accepting new customers. That page then disappeared. Then they had some farewell page, which again, before I could see it, disappeared...

I'm just guessing here but I heard that last week they laid off about half of their staff. The greatest hacking danger to websites is always internal; I would guess that someone who had been let go decided to make a small, unauthorized change to their website.

If you've signed up to use dash to get UA MIleagePlus credit, the equivalent link is http://www.dash.com/united/verifypas...edataintro.asp .

My signup bonus was credited, but I'm still waiting for purchase points from March. Pathetic.

The more I think about it the more I'm concerned about Dash having so mucn information about our web activity. They are tracking and recording every web site that someone with the Dashbar visits, whether or not the dashbar is visible. Their web site talks about privacy, yet they are apparently laying off people and apparently were recently hacked (probably from inside). How long before a disgruntled employee decides to make some money selling detailed information about our web activity?

I encourage everyone with the dash bar to consider removing or at least viewing and editing the information on their website. You'll be really surprised what's out there!

I couldn't find a number for their New York City office, but the number in Maynard, MA seems to be working. Well, at least you get in to their voice mail system, where you can navigate a company directory. The number in Maynard is (978)897-0094.

Dash: a tremendous piece of poor software that tracks those sites you may NOT do business with. Never again.

Just a note: Either the Dashbar software is so poorly written (the benign interpretation) or the Dashbar sofware folks are so underhanded that (on Win98 anyway) even when you uninstall the program using Control Panel's Add/Remove Program, the dll's that do the tracking are still there, doing their tracking thing. I had to edit the registry to get the thing really uninstalled. For details, as noted in one of the upstream notes here, see

From United.com:

Effective June 21, 2001, Mileage Plus miles will be no longer be offered by dash.com. If you have made any purchases in May or June 2001, please allow 6-8 weeks for the miles to be posted to your account. If you believe you are missing miles for a past purchase through dash.com, you may submit a request for missing mileage credit.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause. Look for other new partners soon.

Dash is gone for good. But apparently they will attempt to give people what they are owed. I doubt it will ever happen.

I called UA customer service trying to get my
500 miles for the Dash.com sign up. I was told that with a written request the miles
should be posted. We'll see what happens.
