E*Trade mileage bonus

I opened an E*Trade account last year for the 5000 United miles. After six months, I transfered the assets to Amex for 15,000 Membership reward points and closed the E*Trade account. Now my six months with Amex is up. My question is, has anyone gone back to E*Trade after previously having an account and been successful in getting the 5000 bonus again ?

Never mind the E*Trade aspect, what's this about transferring assets to AMEX for 15,000 membership reward points?

(I don't know about whether you'll have any luck about the re-opening E*Trade part, but keep in mind that they have your tax ID number [usually SSN] for a unique ID to check if you've ever held an account with them before.)

I think the promo expired some time ago. It was MR15 or 15MR. It's worth a call to Amex customer service to see if you can still get it. Good luck.

I would like to know what kind of accounts qualify for the bonus miles from e-trade.
Would a simple checking account do the trick?
Thanks for any info.

Well I'm not sure that just a plain checking account will do. But I did it for Delta miles a couple months ago and opened a money market account and they sent me checks. Don't sign up without giving someone a referral. I posted to the board here and found someone who could refer me and he got 5,000 miles. I'd be happy to refer someone.

I think it has to be a brokerage account. See https://trading.etrade.com/cgi-bin/g...ge?SCS=CVQ0353 for details.
