Rocketmiles Discussion Thread [Merged]

Mods - Not sure if this is the right place for Rocketmiles so please move it to the appropriate place.

I havent used rocketmiles yet since I never found any hotel rates I could work with. However, for next week I see a real sweet rate at a nearby Hilton (where I have no status) lower than my regular hotel corporate rate and which gives 1000 miles for the night. That combined with the ongoing conga, would effectively net me a total of 3000 miles (1000 for the stay + 1000 for being referred + 1000 for eventually referring someone)

My questions:
1. The rate quoted is the lowest rate available on the hotel website for a basic room with 2 doubles. I'd like to pay an extra $10 for a king on the Exec Floor. How is that possible with rocketmiles since they dont offer that option? If I call the hotel directly will that invalidate my rocketmiles booking?

2. Who actually charges me for the booking? Do I get the receipt from the hotel or from rocketmiles? I'd rather not have to submit a receipt from rocketmiles for reimbursement and raise unnecessary questions.

Any insight appreciated.

1. You can request it upon checkin or call the hotel after making the reservation and they should be able to put a note on your reservation about your request. Won't invalidate the booking since its just another prepaid booking.

2. Rocketmiles charges you the instant you book and refunds it if you cancel later. Shows up as RTI* (hotelname) in your credit card. The receipt is from rocketmiles and the hotel just treats it as another prepaid reservation. FWIW, rocketmiles might be going through a 3rd party hotel booking reseller, so if you call the hotel, they might not know what you are talking about if you tell them you are booked through rocketmiles. That said, they will find your reservation if you give them your name.

Thanks for the response. I can live with a less than desirable bed type but not if the receipt is not from the hotel itself. That's a big no no.

I guess I'll just have to use rocketmiles for my personal bookings only where I am paying cash.

Again, appreciate the insight.

Question

Just piggybacking on the above.

I notice that Rocketmiles seems to offer both prepaid and cancelable rates. I have the same concern as the OP regarding who issues the receipt. If the non-prepaid rate is chosen then does the hotel issue the receipt upon checkout?

I have booked with rocket before. The receipts are plain, no branding. My finance dept. never had an issue with them

Just noticed Rocket Miles is running a promotion to earn 3k bonus miles for first time users. Anyone know if this is usable along with the referral bonus?

Rocketmiles, multiple accounts and one FF number?

I understand it is possible for me to make a booking for a friend through my rocket miles account and collect miles to my AA number... But is it possible for him to set up his own rocket miles account and add my AA number to it, so every time he makes a hotel booking, I get the miles?

yes. according to their custy service department, miles can be deposited in any valid frequent flyer account, no matter the name on the hotel bookins.

This is what they say on their website:
This varies a little bit from program to program, but your offer will not show up in your account until after you check out of your hotel. Afterward, you will see the offer in your account within 4 weeks...

I added my MilleagePlus number and on my confirmation there is: Posting date: Within 2 weeks of check out

Reviving an old thread: Did anyone actually get miles awarded with them? I must say my experience is not so good. I booked a hotel with them when Qatar Airways started promoting them. My first-time miles ended up on my account on their website. Then I had a question, and they deleted that booking (no idea why), resulting in me losing the signup bonus. they did not respond to my question of why. As they were still the cheapest, I rebooked but the signup bonus did not come back. My stay is now 1.5 weeks ago, but still no miles received at privilege club. Any idea how long it usually takes?

Thanks a lot. I'll wait a bit longer. I'm used to faster crediting with another FF-programme, but then again, QR are a bit weird at times.

Yes, the miles appeared 3000 for 3 nights stay plus 5000 signup bonus after all. I'm not sure if they're always the best to chose, but in this cache the hotel booking was also quite a bit cheaper than at booking, etc... Shame I cannot book business travel with them as I need to go via a dedicated travel agency

FYI--Even though there's the odd RTI* (hotelname) on the CC charge, Barclay Arrival+ considers it an eligible travel-related cost; you can redeem Rocketmile-booked stays with the Arrival+, great for defraying the cost of bookings at boutique/unaffiliated hotels.
