This story is from the past, but it's relevant for the future. So, my friend had a flight from Berlin to London (and then from London to the USA with a different airline). However, the flight from Berlin was canceled without a clear reason. The airline said it was due to an issue with the "aircraft." They gave her a 15 voucher for food and simply rescheduled the flight. Afterward, she submitted a complaint, and they provided her with another voucher. However, she spent money on a car rental and other expenses. Is there any chance to get reimbursed for these costs?

She might qualify for EC261 compensation (250€/pp) depending on how long before the cancellation happened. For all other expenses, she will not get Ryanair to reimburse her, that's what travel cancellation insurance is for.
