Making up time in flight?

Hi. I flew dublin to malaga and flight take off was delayed from 20.15 to 23. 35.
Just wondering are airlines allowed to "speed" in the air as I have never been on a flight so noisy and so obviously rushing through the air?
We were due to land 00.10 and actually landed 03.05 but doors didn't open until around 03.10.
So a 2hour 55min flight was done in 2 hours and 30 mins.
I have put in a EU 261 claim but heard nothing yet. Thanks

If that 2:55 was the "Block time" then nothing unusual. Schedules are often (usually?) padded to some extent.

Actual flight time most of the times turns out to be less than scheduled. May things influence the actual flight times, e.g. winds, flights paths, airport congestion etc. Scheduled flight times are not based on a best case scenario.

My personal best recently was a late evening Bristol
to Dublin which did the flight in 27 minutes vs the block time of 75 minutes!
