I've been in Russia long enough to know how they can finish a project, however shoddily, at the given date, be it Lenin's birthday or some another anniversary... Thanks God they didn't invite Paul Andreu for that one

Anyway, the deadline (Nov., 2007) was set in the initial construction tender for SVO3 and everyone who placed their bids did so with that deadline in mind - including ENKA, the Turkish company that won and is building the terminal. Someone very high in the SU pecking order (not the Son-in-Law himself, but pretty close) told me a huge fine if the deadline is not met is part of the contract. Now, one would hope ENKA knows what it is doing...

yes, Enka is very experienced in Moscow and well enough connected to avoid problems with the city authorities.

Well, my guess is the mayor and his cronies are too busy expanding VKO to bother with anything at SVO now anyway

Can one of you veterans tell me where DL 46 arrives? My husband and his business partner are flying this Friday pm, arriving Saturday am, and when I called Delta to find out about terminals so I could get a car arranged, they didn't know. Given what I've heard and read about airport transportation, I want to make sure to give the car company as much info as possible - sadly DL appears clueless. Many thanks and sorry if this is a silly question...

All int'l traffic arrives at SVO2. (DL flights usually use the last gate on the left, if it helps.) The car company will definitely know which terminal to go to and once they are at SVO2, they'll see your flight at the arrival board and will know which way to go (to the left). Prepare for a throng of gypsy taxi drivers at the exit - never mind the officially-looking badges, just plough your way right through to find your driver

The new SVO1 opened on March, 12. It's now called Terminal C (SVO3 will be Terminal A and the new SVO2 Terminal B). Airlines using it so far are Aeroflot (their CIS flights that used to operate from SVO1, I presume), Aeroflot-Don, Aeroflot-Nord, Air Algrie, flyLAL, Air Astana and Aerosvit. More carriers are expected to relocate after March, 25

I'm looking at the online timetable at www.sheremetyevo-airport.ru right now. Choose Astana, hit Submit and you have Air Astana flight 873 arriving SVO at 13.05, Terminal C (the new SVO1). Could they possibly have flights to both DME and SVO (the way FV flies from LED to each of the three major Moscow airports)?

I've always flown Air Astana from SVO1 in the past.

My flights to Kaz from DME have been with Transaero

I flew though SVO1 on March 15 and March 26, 2007. It was the same terminal that I used last year when I flew in / out of Russia, and it was still the same as I remember. I don't recall seeing anything new or remonted. We were on Aeroflot. Have they for sure opened the new SVO1?
