Flight cancellations from UK

Aeroflot has advised that they will be making forced refunds to passengers who were supposed to be travelling from LHR during the (currently) one week flight ban and who booked after last May.

Is this lawful for a flight leaving a country covered by EU261? I would much prefer to change the flight as presumably fares will be much higher next week (if indeed there is any availability).

Looks like Aeroflot have taken all London flights off their booking system from now until the beginning of February.

All,

I am looking to fly from London to Moscow mid March - Given current situation with entry restrictions into most countries from the UK, any advice on best routing?

Thank you!

Russia has banned direct flights from UK until at least 17 March.

https://www.rusemb.org.uk/consnews/145

Regarding routing, the situation is that Russia generally doesnt allow people to take connecting flights. They expect you to be UK citizen or resident if you fly From UK, a Turkish citizen or resident if you fly to Russia from Turkey and so on. There are exemptions for Russian citizens, residents and certain Highly Qualified work visa holders but unless you fall into one of those categories you must fly the route of your citizenship/residence.

Thank you and apologies, I should have specified - Passport is Russian. From what I can tell this doesnt necessarily make it easier though as most countries dont even let passengers coming from the UK connect...

In that case, LHR - IST - VKO on Turkish Airlines looks OK - I think as long as you stay airside. I heard of a UK citizen / Russian resident doing that route yesterday.

Exemptions also include foreigners with family members who are Russian citizens. In the last few days, Russia has reopened to other work visa holders: https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2021/...k-visas-a73018.

Any updates yet on whether the commencement of flights between UK and Russia will be further postponed?

Many thanks!

The previous extensions have been announced very late.

As an aside, Aeroflot are currently running one daily flight from Moscow to London. The decree which has allowed foreigners to remain in Russia past their documents' expiry dates during the Covid pandemic looks set to finish tomorrow (14th March) for UK citizens unfortunately..
