Regarding routing, the situation is that Russia generally doesn’t allow people to take connecting flights. They expect you to be UK citizen or resident if you fly From UK, a Turkish citizen or resident if you fly to Russia from Turkey and so on. There are exemptions for Russian citizens, residents and certain Highly Qualified work visa holders but unless you fall into one of those categories you must fly the route of your citizenship/residence.
Thank you and apologies, I should have specified - Passport is Russian. From what I can tell this doesn’t necessarily make it easier though as most countries don’t even let passengers coming from the UK connect...
