I found the website http://www.koscher.ch/4598.html
very helpful during my time in Zurich. We made plans for Shabbat and had an incredible time as well. The Hotel Ascot was very accomodating. The Chabad, with advance notification of our arrival was very helpful in setting us up. Speaking hebrew was important, as fewer people than expected spoke english. There is an ex-pat American family active in the Chabad.
As to the scond post, of what appears to be someone trying to sell their services via FT, I cannot comment.

Zürich old town
Baugeschichtliches Archiv
Neumarkt 4
8001 Zürich
Tel. 044 266 86 86
Open Mo 13-17 Tues-Fr 8-17
Here you can fetch the key (free of charge) and admire one of the
oldest mural paintings (1300)in Europe discovered in a Jewish house.
You have to give your pass/identity card.
Even many swiss are unaware of this. Pity.

The house mentioned above is on the Brunngasse 8 - 8001 Zürich
http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/content/...nngasse_8.html
Then turn the corner - you'll be on the Froschaugasse - go to nr. 4
it's a Music shop - enter - at the back - look on the wall - and you'll
see mural painting from 1300 - was once a synagogue.

Just curious - did someone see the mural painting (1300) in the Jewish house ?
Once there were 84 coat of arms there today there are few left. Look carefully under
each one is a hebrew inscription. The owners of this house - Minna and her 2 sons
Rav Moishe the Smaq and his brother - were forced to hand over the keys of the house to the town council, during the black pest.

Zurich
I plan to be in Zurich on a very short transit in the beginning of May. Landing at 8:20 AM, taking off again at 1 PM. awfully short, but I'm told that the airport-city train connection in Zurich is so fast and frequent, that it should be possible to spend a couple of hours down town (just walking down Bahnhofstrasse I imagine).
I've been to Zurich once before. I'd be happy to take another look at the Sprungli shop...but I'll be coming with 2 friends who keep kosher...
So...
- is it really practical to go to town on such a short transit?
- the sites you mentioned, are they within walking distance from the train station?
- Sprungli...any idea if some of the merchandise is kosher?
Many thanks!
