Radisson Collection Berlin - Exploding Fish Tank
This property is famous for the free standing fish tank in the lobby which is several floors tall
The fish tank is no more

Guessing the property will be closed for some time

Insane story, I just saw it and came here to check if anyone had posted.
They're very lucky it happened at 5:50 in the morning, when the lobby was empty. Apparently only two injuries. If it had happened when the lobby was full, it could have been much worse.
I'm sure the hotel will be closed for a while.

Hotel confirmed as closed
Last time I was there pre-covid and pre-refurb there were a clear signs of water leaking out of the tank and corrosion.

Bizarrely, the exact same thing happened in the first season of the German TV show BABYLON BERLIN, which is on Netflix in the US. The photos of the street covered in debris, water and dead fish look like they're straight out of the show.

A video of what the fishtank looked like before the destruction.
The hotel staff in the ground floor lobby at front desk reception must have had some pretty bad injuries if they were there at the time of the accident.

Radisson announced completion of refurbishments including the aquarium in January 2022 so it should have no longer been in "bad shape".

I have fond memories of sitting in the lounge under the aquarium working on my lap top. I found the hotel very comfortable. I was very sorry to read this.
Thank goodness the explosion was early in the morning with few people in the lobby.

Will the aquarium be rebuilt?
Any idea when the hotel will reopen?
