Unused ticket portion

I have a reservation for a flight that doesn´t originate where I´m from and doesn´t terminate where I´m from. I´m pretty sure you all can guess what flight I´m talking about... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Now my question, what happens if I don´t use the last portion of my ticket ? Being from Switzerland, it would be a lot easier not to fly the last segment, since I´d have to make my way back from that foreign city to my hometown. I realize that I would loose the miles etc., but I would also only have to use 3/4 of the miles for a one-way award ticket... Would not flying the last segment change my fare in any way (because making the reservation without that last segment would have been a lot more expensive) ???
Any thoughts ?

It will depend on the fare construction, and especially whether the connecting cities are separated by 'X' or 'O'.

If 'O', no problem. If 'X', that's a through ticket and you have to travel. In theory at least - it may be worth a phone call to ask if they can reissue as 'O'. After all, they want to keep their customers happy!

If it is a C-class tket (like it seems) then you can do whatever you want... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Just leave the last segment open and do the flight some other time.

Does this mean we can change our bookings on the ticket in question?

Yes kooks, it sure is a C-ticket http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

So I could just tell them at the airport in a far away country to only check my baggage through to a city in Switzerland and then use the last segment of my ticket some other time ? Would they charge me a fee for this ?

If your routing is the same as mine, I just asked SWISS if a stopover in ZRH is possible.

Yes, in one direction, for GBP 50. If that were on the return leg, you could stop in ZRH (assuming that is part of your routing) and have a one way ticket ZRH-LHR (if that etc) for future use. All for only GBP 50 extra.

Normaly if you have a C-class tket you should not have any restrictions at all with all Swiss flights.

So as far as I know, there should not be a the 50 GBP fee.

Without knowing, I suspect that huegli has a similar routing to me.

I asked SWISS the question about my own reservation and reported the answer above.

I guess 'normally' doesn't apply here.

Yes, I think we definitely have the same routing, on which a different thread exists...

I´m trying to figure out if only getting a oneway award and having an unsused portion is of any use to me or if I should just use the entire paid ticket and get a roundtrip award.
