Best seats in MD11 First Class?

Please excuse my "overposting" but....

I've taken the advice of some of you and changed my Business class award reservation to First - and I've also switched the American outbound flight to SWISS so that all segments are now on SWISS. (I've posted previously that I'm flying on an AA award ticket LAX to FCO, previously half on American and half on SWISS).

I've been trying to get a seat map on the new site (which I've just posted that I'm having difficulties with), so that I'll know what seats to reserve - but I can't seem to get any info from the site.

So I was hoping that one of you might fill me in as to what the seat configuration is on the MD11 in First and perhaps offer suggestions as to the "best" seat in the section.

I'll be flying by myself on Flt 41 (LAX-ZRH) and Flt 1732 (ZRH-FCO) and returning on Flt 1735 (FCO-ZRH) and Flt 40 (ZRH-LAX).

I appreciate all the help you folks have been giving me.

- Sharon

SWISS first class on the MD-11 is three rows of 1-2-1, and I'd recommend one of the windows seats. I think the row doesn't matter, but perhaps others on this board have made different experiences??

Seat maps of all SWISS aircraft are included in their timetable which can be downloaded from the website (if it's online).

and I'd recommend one of the windows seats, which is an A of J seat.

Since my F flights are generally with my GF, we take the middle seats, however, I'd say any of the single seats on the A or J sides will be great! You will get at least 3 windows to yourself http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'd guess that the 3rd row is the only one that could be classed as "undesirable" since there is a galley behind it, but I've not noticed a noise problem on any flight I've been on.

Enjoy your flight, hope the seat doesn't jam! (one did on our last flight, caused much confusion).

1-2-1 is configured EXCEPT the old LTU bomber (2-2-2), watch out, don't take that A/C.
Service starts on the left, therefore 1A is prime, with my wife I choose first row middle, since they are usually free ....
No more Praerie cremes, no more caviar, all a bit less voluptious . still the best despite it all. LH is a bit spacier but more raunchy.

SWISS has not taken over the old LTU birds, so not an issue any longer.

Your trip in Swiss First Class will be most enjoyable. If you are traveling alone or even with someone else I would recommend the window seat. The second pax, if there is one, can take another window seat on the same side as yours or just opposite you in the middle row of two seats on your side. I say this because of the dining arrangements. If you are both in the middle row it is not as convenient to move to the other person's table, plus there is a substantial barrier between the middle row seats. The dining table is large enough for two to eat together. One person sits on an ottoman that moves back and forth on a rail. The ottoman's position is contolled from the pax seat. The ottoman also becomes part of your sleeper. I know this to be the case on the MD11 and the Airbus 330.

My wife and I have flown two round-trips to ZRH from Miami in Swiss (Air) first and will do so again in June. I always use miles to get our tickets as the direct cost is way beyond what would be a prudent purchase for me. It's a great way to get spoiled. After our first trip in Swiss (Air) first class, I overheard my wife talking on the phone to a mutual friend. She said: "It was like going to a great restaurant and then going to bed without having to drive home". I know she is now spoiled for life!

I hope your trip in first class will be as great as ours have been.

Wow, great responses. I'm flying the A330 (I assume) from BOS-ZRH this fall on a US Airways award, with a connection to Istanbul. My next step is to choose seats.

Does everything on this MD-11 thread also apply to the A330? i.e. window, not center; front, not back. What is the seating configuration on the A330? The new www.swiss.com site hasn't gotten around to posting seating charts yet.

Seating configuration on A 330-223 in F is the same as in MD 11 (rows 1 to 3: 1-2-1), but the right windowss seat is called K instead of J. And as you know - ailes in A 330 are smaller than on MD 11 (trolley is slightly difficult to manoeuvre for FAs).

Thanks! (though the suggestion that two people traveling together should both choose windows seems odd at first blush....I guess I need to see the configuration!)

In F, two seats together DG)are in the middle of the plane, therefore they are not at the window.

I am interested to get three awards seats in SWISS First for this June using AA miles. IS there any chance these are available? If so, does swiss have a claim two award for 200K still(eg discounted companion ticket)? Thank you and looking forward to your advice.

I am not familiar in spending AA miles on SWISS. You have to check the availability.

If you fly on a paid F-class ticket and have to burn 100.000 Qualiflyer miles on one USA/Europe companion F-Class ticket. If there is a second companion, you have to ask for a free F-class ticket for 150.000 miles.

Thanks for all the great information - it's truly appreciated!

I hate to ask, but does anyone have a link to the seat maps or somekind of map in electronic form that they could post here or email to me? I tried to download the timetable from the website but was unable to - I use a computer at work and the internal configurations wouldn't allow me to download successfully.

And mktozd, about using AA miles for Swiss flights, just call the AAdvantage line: (800) 882-8880, press 4 for international flights, and ask the rep - they've been very helpful to me.

I've made a screen shot of the seat maps displayed in the SWISS timetable:
