Free Mile Bug?
I signed up last month for a Qualiflier number thinking I might fly but haven't yet. I just reviewed my FF account balances and noticed that a Hong Kong to London flight for 5,993 miles has been posted. But I was in Australia during that time flying Air New Zealand.
Free miles? Has this ever happened to anyone else?

By the way, there's a code listed on it "CX0251". Does anyone know what this means?

It means Cathay Pacific flight CX 251, which flies Hong Kong - London. CX is the code for Cathay Pacific, like SR is the one for swissair... And, as you can read in your membership guide, CX is a partner in the Qualiflyer FFP. But the interesting point: Did you actually fly CX from HKG to LHR?

No, I was busy flying around Australia on Ansett and Air New Zealand at the time.
I haven't flown on any Qualiflyer partner since I signed up. I did get a 1000 mile bonus for signing up as well.

Dear Wanderlust
As much as it pains me to say this (you know how I love those free miles), I'd encourage you to do the right thing and let Swissair know. You will probably lose the miles but at least you'll have peace of mind (It could save you some grief later on too). And you never know - they may give some miles as a thank you maybe.
It would be interesting to know how the system got you FF number. Maybe someone has stolen your FF number and is illicitly travelling around the world under your name. Well, I suppose it is one way to accrue miles...
By the way Swissair had a promotion last month which was quite good. If you did any flying on Qantas between Australia and Asia or within Australia last month you could be eligible for a 5,000 mile bonus.
cheers Peter

Thanks pberrett,
I've already contacted them, but haven't heard back yet. And unfortunately I didn't fly Qantas, which was a big bummer because they had a double mile promotion with United I would have liked to have taken advantage of too, but couldn't since I flew ANZ and Ansett.

One thing you could have done was taken a Qantas mystery flight - this would have qualified you for the bonus.
The other good thing is that unlike Qantas, with Swissair you get 100% of the miles travelled on your mystery flight. Great if you can score a trip to the other side of Australia and back!

It might take Swissair more trouble to delete the flights than to leave it on.
Finders Keepers?
But if it is twitching your conscience, you should let them know. Though I have to admit that I have been guilty of keeping quiet once with them. An economy flight was posted as Business. It was a difference of 2000 miles.
I never let on. And my miles stuck.

A few months ago, I flew TK on a roundtrip ARN-IST-FRU in business. While in Bishkek (FRU), I rebooked my return trip - I flew back seven days later than planned. However, the system noticed that no miles had been credited for the flight back as originally booked so it put them (the miles) on my account, pending for verification. And after a few weeks, those miles were credited as flown miles! Naturally, I recieved the miles for my actual flown return flight as well...
Thank you, Qualiflyer!!!

I still have around 6,000 Global Rewards points included in my total balance from a trip to Hong Kong back in 1990!
I have spoken to Global Rewards about it but they said not to worry about it - I could keep the points.

That's interesting considering recent stories of folks who have had airlines renig on miles after two years! I don't remember the thread, either DL or UN.

Don't quote me but I think there may be some last vestiges of customer service still left in Australia - it may soon become extinct however.
