Travel Companion vs. Family?

On on Qatar's WEB site and I figured I'd add my wife as a Travel Companion so when I go to book I have all the info already filled out. I noticed there was also a tab for Family. I looked at that and it has a place to passport upload and marriage certificate. Upon reading further that's probably just so they can help out with Avios earning? Does that appear to be correct?

That's correct, your family members will pool their avios to you. Its something like 25/50/75/100% depending on your tier.
