Hi I'm on the QR4 on Friday 26th LHR-DOH I have noticed almost 2 front Y cabins have nearly totally blocked seats with a few exceptions does anyone know if passenger traffic is light at the moment ( for the days from a couple of days in the past until next few days
Hopefully it will be a quiet flight

Strange thing is my fellow traveller is booked in 62H ( trying to get him into 31A ) at check in ) but ef shows 62H as blocked do the experts concur this is load balancing or just QR quirkiness?
Any comments appreciated

However, my understanding is that QR always allows free standard seat selection at purchase--and I don't think you can finish the purchase without making a selection--so I'd be inclined to concur with the previous replies about load balancing. I'm in a similar boat as you in about 3 days so interested to see how this plays out.

Weight and balance - wife recently did this trip and the first two sections of lower deck economy were completely empty and she was moved from the front to the back. Was told it was weight and balance.

I have seen some airlines do this when OLCI opens and it roughly corresponds to seats sold but not assigned. This is exactly how BA's wacky Theoretical Seating system makes the chart look before everyone signs in.
