Got first flight ever on Qatar coming up soon. Is there WiFi on their A320's?

remdk Oct 8, 2018 2:21 pm

Atlantic 101 there are a number of versions of the A320 and some have wifi but most do not.
To see which have wifi look at the Wiki on complete-guide-qatar-airways-fleet to see which version have wifi.
You can use check routing on Qatar Airways Cargo to see which type is allocated to your flight that day.

Very useful resources, thank you for those!

It was 10 USD for the entire flight on 22.09.2023, 787-900, QR 838

Price and speed for the 787s depends on whether it’s a -8 or -9 I think. -8s don’t have super WiFi and pricing is aligned to data usage.
Others can clarify but I *think* the -9s have the super WiFi like the 777s/350s.

I remember the last time I flew QR, the free internet was only for 10MB of data. In QR's website, it's now 1hr of free data for Qmiles members. Is the speed of the free 1hr internet throttled?

QR060 22.09.2023, A350-900 QSuite - Wifi working but Internet down for for the entire flight (due to server error in Doha, I was told ...)

I hope you very helpfully suggested that perhaps they should try turning it off and then turning it back on again :)

I normally travel DUB-DOH on a 787 and the wi-fi is always either exceptionally slow or not working (even after paying the $10). This is something that they need to improve and I hear they are trying to do this. Also, asking people to fumble for credit cards, particularly business class passengers is a bit much. It should be part of the ticket price

788 don't have fast wifi. It's basically feels 64kbit multiplexed for all devices onboard. I will be on one all day tomorow. Yay.

Currently sitting on a 789 and tying this and its very nice, except for known blackout areas, etc.

The servers aren't in Doha, they are located with the third party service providers. If you get the QR branded screen that says the connection is not available then its a connection issue. If you don't get the screen, I have noticed many times its an issue on the device getting to the authentication portal, in which case its worth fidgeting with the device and checking DNS settings etc..

You are correct, the 787-8 and A380 have an older product with a sub 1mb shared for the whole plane. They announced an upgrade before COVID hit which didn't do ahead:

I got to the QR branded screen where it showed "Sat Link down". I asked then the CSD about and got the answer about "server issues in Doha", knowing that most likely was not the reason ;-)

Another fun one I've seen is the DHCP server is ither not responding or out of available leases. That usually means packet sniff and find the subnet/mask/gw and deal with it manually. This is obviously someting that everyone onboard will be able to use to solve the issues. :p

At least they have fixed the original implementation on the 788, when it launched the onboard controller would freely divulge all kinds of things if asked nicely.
