Upcoming flights – questions

I have a few flights coming up in September which I’m a bit worried about...

Sep 4 CBR-PDX
QF704 [booked as AA7398]
QF11
AS565 [booked as QF4113]

Since I’m on the AA code for the first sector, I don’t think I’ll be able to use online checkin. Will the check in agent check me through to PDX, or will I need to recheck with AS when I get to LAX?
I’ll have to collect my bag in customs at LAX. If they check me through to PDX, do I use the bag drop outside customs (ie, the one QF107 uses), or do I need to take it to the other terminal (Bradley > T3) and drop it there?
There is an 8 hour wait between QF11 (arrives 0930) and AS565 (departs 1700). What are my chances of being able to change to QF3785/AS563 (departs 1110)?
The reason I chose QF11 was because of the 388. This flight has since been changed to a 744. Would it be better to see if I can change to AA7390(QF872)/QF107/QF3785(AS563)?

Sep 23 LHR-KUL
QF32
JL721

Will QF check me through to KUL? (There are 11 hours between flights, I plan to head into the city to shop. Would rather not have to worry about my bag).

How did you get the AA code CBR-SYD if the SYD-LAX is booked under the QF code? I thought the AA code on domestic Australian sectors had to be in conjunction with the AA code trans-Pac...

I think you should be able through check bags LHR-SIN-KUL, but in case you can't there is cheap baggage storage at SIN.

Don't ask me. The booking tool allowed it and AA accepted and ticketed it.

I believe you will be able to check your bags all the way through.

Yes, you will pick up your bags at TBIT but can indeed redeposit them again at TBIT before heading to T3.

If you do not ask for an earlier flight you will not get one - so if you want this you could try at T3.

If you redeposit your bags at TBIT and ask to get on the earlier flight at T3 and manage to get it, will your bags get on?

I'll ask with your bags...

Good point ...

Of course there's really no-one to ask at TBIT before you redeposit your bags, so with bags and a desire for an earlier flight, it might be best to schlep said bags across to T3 and try at the AS check-in counters there.

If I asked before I left CBR, should I ask AA (ticketing airline), QF (marketed airline) or AS (operating)?

Why wait? Just call AA now and see whether they can get you onto an earlier flight.

I just got off the phone with AA AU. They called me to tell me about schedule changes (which I already knew about anyway). Asked about getting the CBR-PDX shifted to arrive in PDX earlier. The person who called me spoke to AA ticketing about it and they found what I expected them to find, that you can’t use AS on an xONEx (oh what a surprise ).
However as it was showing on the One World tool as a valid flight, they had ticketed it [it was 3 days between submitting the booking and getting the ticket issued, so I would think they had given it a good look], and they already changed it once without noticing that it was an AS flight, they are now stuck with it and are looking at a way I can get to PDX earlier.
I suspect that they will either keep it as is, change it to an earlier AS codeshare flight (as it is there fault for ticketing an ‘illegal’ flight) or route me through DFW.

LAX-DFW-PDX? That's a hell of a re-route!

I may have mis-read, but do AA not have a codeshare on AS to PDX? I know they do for various other segments...

They do. QF and AA both codeshare on AS between LAX/SFO-PDX. Not all the flights have QF codes, most have AA codes.
However, as AS is not part of oneworld, flights operated by AS can't be used on an xONEx (continent based 'oneworld Explorer', they can be used on the mileage based 'Global Explorer', xGLOBn). But since they allowed that flight to be ticketed, they are stuck with it and have to honor it [They should have caught it when I submitted the booking from the oneworld online booking tool and said "hang on, you can't do that"].
