I need some advice from the FT brains trust. I have flights booked for November for the wife and I to go round trip San Francisco to Sydney. Approximate total cost for the two tickets is $1440 USD. We no longer need to go back to Australia, so ideally would like a refund, however given it is a non refundable fare the most we could get refunded is the taxes which are around $300.
So my next best option is to pay the $245 per ticket to change the flights, but given we are not planning on returning to Australia in the immediate future, the only options to book out of San Francisco on the Qantas website seems to be NZ, Fiji and French Polynesia. Does anyone know if I can change these tickets for code share with BA or AA so we could go from SFO to either Europe or Hawaii? If so how can I see the costs of these fares?
