Upgrade question
Do you need to have the full amount of points required for all your upgrade requests when you make the request or can you rely on the earn you know you will have between the request and the flight requiring them?
For example, I will need 35k each way to upgrade from J to F, I can drop enough points for the number I am short, but also know I will be earning 11k between now and the return flight.
With 60k odd points in my account, will my upgrade request be in jeopardy as I am short at the time of the request?
I do realise that they are only requests and may not come through at all.
I hope that makes sense.

No, your upgrade request will not be in jeapody if you are short at the time of the request. I have done what you propose. You may have to ring the call centre and request it to be done - I remember the lady assisting me told me she had to "fool" the computer to do this.
Obviously you will only be eligible for the upgrade to be confirmed from the time that the required amount of points goes into your account.

I had no problem doing it online.
I guessed, correctly it turned out, that not all my upgrade requests would be approved so I did not have the problem of insuuficent points at the time the requests were processed.

With the right AMEX card, you keep a healthy balance there so you have max options in the future. QF FF rules basically say they can close the program at no notice. Unlikely, but very clearly stated.

It gives me maximum flexibility to transfer to a number of airline programs and keeps them nice and warm until I need them.
There is no benefit to me in having lots of points in QFF, it's the SCs that matter...

New question now...
As, to date, I have really only used points for full tickets with the rare domestic U/G, where do I see that my international U/G request is at least 'in the system'???
Is anyone able to tell me what the loads are like on a couple of flights SYD-JNB-SYD in June/July?

Check www.qantas.com/yourbooking
If there is reference to upgrades agianst each segment, then an upgrade has been requested.

If you are outside the 90 day window, you'll have to wait to lodge your UG request. And, if you are confirmed in Biz and want an UG to First, the "our bookings" page will say that your request to upgrade to Business "has been recorded" (or something like that) - a bug in the QF system.
