AFL Grand Final

Qantas seem to have loaded up some extra flights over the AFL grand final weekend.

Seems to be a mini-special for folk in Melbourne to escape to Perth for the weekend!

The $189 special are valid only on the extra flights scheduled (QF 12XX series), with other flights starting at $270.

Are QF expecting a Perth-based team to be in the Grand Final?

Interestingly travelling MEL-PER on Sun 1 or Mon 2 Aug, there are 18 scheduled flights, and economy seats can only be purchased on 6 of those flights (2 have Flexi Savers the rest only full fares). J only available on 8. Sounds like the WA punters are counting on WA team in the GF not QF.

When there is a chance, always free to hope.
If the Warriors was not caught cheating, they could be in the playoffs.

They need to have a go at backfilling their planes. And there is such a nice selection of red-eyes from PER->MEL to choose from

I'd be tempted if the fare was around $149 or $159, but $189 means $380 return, not sufficient saving to warrant a weekend away just to take advantage of the "low" fare.

Don't forget such nice selection is also available on the MEL->PER, for example, QF 1219 departs MEL at 02:20 on 29th Sept and arrives PER at a very civilised hour of 04:35.

Well Sydney will of course again be one team, so surely it is about time a Melbourne team also got to play in the grand final?

Surely West Coast hogging the runner-up spot once again is not good for the wider game?

Heck some of us bearded old timers remember when the game was simply called the VFL.

Out of interest what is the lowest price a non-cancellable QF ticket will run PER-MEL for Grand Final am Sat with Sunday return? Might be some unhappy faces if things do not pan out for WCE and big $$$'s were forked out.

Well, you can travel on QF1242 or QF1224, both 'red-eye' services, for $717 (Flexi Saver) from PER to MEL. As for the return flight..... there are NO direct service available from MEL to PER on Sunday, the cheapest costing $926 and involves flying up to BNE then to PER.

The above info is correct as at 17th Sept.

The grand final will be between the winner of

West Coast Eagles Vs Adelaide
Fremantle Dockers Vs Sydney Swans

Can't see a way for a Melbourne team to make it. But I can see a way for two Perth teams to make it

Interesting to see the sport pages of the Age and the Herald Sun today. The Age led on the cover of the sports liftout with a full page photo of the Melbourne Victory, and as for the Hun, they led with the motorcycle Grand Prix. AFL? What's that?
