Jetstar details Darwin service plans - Am I reading this right?

My take on this report is that QF will stop opertaing between Darwin and Melbourne from May?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems...3/s1581489.htm

Jetstar has released more details about flights in and out of Darwin.

The budget airline will start servicing the Territory from May 1 and will fly from Darwin to Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Special launch fares are being sold from today for $99 one-way.

A spokesman for Jetstar says there will be 700 additional seats each week into Darwin but at the expense of the current Melbourne service operated by Qantas.

The Adelaide service will run twice a week in the afternoons.

Flights to Brisbane and Melbourne will be a red-eye services, six times a week

That seems to be the case :
Mr Buchanan said Jetstar would replace existing Qantas operations on the Melboune Drawin city pair...

It is only a matter of time before Jetstar replaces Qantas as a domestic carrier in Australia

That is what it seems to be suggesting. This is starting to happen on too many routes for my liking.

I wonder what OW thinks of this? Perhaps as long as main cities still served by QF mainline they may not care, but it is a steady loss of alliance benefits.

It will be the ultimate irony if DJ becomes the main higher-service higher-comfort domestic Australian carrier.

Much like what's happened in the US -- where jetblue has far better economy service than any "full service" airline.

Darwin Launch Sale Fares from ($AU)
Brisbane - Darwin $99
Melbourne - Darwin $99
Adelaide - Darwin Limited Availability - Selling quickly! $99
Starts 1st May.

The DRW-MEL was part of my routing fix for the PER-<east coast> restriction now including MEL, but with PER-DRW no longer having any J and DRW-MEL no longer having any class that's gone.

At least you can get a cheap UA (dark side) fare and get Y+ seating. Just imagine Death* on a TransPacific in Y-

Interesting, I had a look at the Qantas Industry Sales site and the following is available: Qantas Jetstar Darwin Passenger Reaccommodation Policy.

Some interesting stuff there, but it does show Qantas are prepered to be flexible when it comes to existing bookings. Maybe they have learnt from other times when a route has been de-classed.
