Qantas cancels CNS-AYQ route many days ago and I am still not notified

I booked a CNS->AYQ (QF 1231) ticket for October 19th with AAdvantage miles about a month ago. Last week, I happened to search for that flight again and noticed that QF 1231 doesn't show up anymore. After searching for that flight for several days, I came to the conclusion that Qantas dropped that route entirely.

Qantas shows that my booking is still valid on their website.I haven't heard anything to the contrary either from Qantas or from American. Should I sit tight and wait for one of them to notify me or should I call American or Qantas? I heard about the horror stories of horrendous wait times on Qantas customer service calls....

This is probably because the flight hasn't been formally cancelled (yet):

Have you worked out what you would like to do instead? This is a good time to sort out your alternative preferences.

What class of travel? 19 Oct is a long time away. Schedules change. It may come back
When I searched on QF for 19 Oct (and dates each side) was offered CNS-MEL-AYQ all on JQ Jestar. But JQ is not an Aadvantage fff partner. Did find SYD-AYQ on QF728 [and JQ660] for 19 Oct
CNS-AQY still showing in https://www.qantas.com/au/en/qantas-...imetables.html

As ticketed with Aadvantage its for AA to resolve. Look for alternative routes and suggest to AA. Possible via ASP. You have the time to get this fixed, if needed.

I used 10k AA miles to book an economy class ticket because the cash price at that time was $400! That was the only direct flight between CNS and AYQ though. CNS-MEL-AYQ is an 18 hour flight with an overnight layover at MEL. Yeah, I have to actively look for alternatives now.

Actually AU$400 one way economy to central Au is not unusual. From the AU east coast can be cheaper to go to some Asian party island than the extremes - centre of the AU continent. AU is big
Look as via SYD MEL DRW , possibly via ASP. With Advantage zone based awards 10k AA miles can get to many places in AU. Economy awards are often available.
It it was me would wait until August (~8-10 weeks out). At this time schedules/routes are in constant change.

Sorry, should have mentioned that the price was roughly US $400 ... I'll heed your advice and wait before deciding on alternatives. Thank you.

Keep a watch on routes - schedules. Always a risk. The red centre is popular and can be hard/expensive to get to.
I should be an Aadvanage (QF) problem
US$400 - AU$566. Next week for CNS-(MEL)-AYQ on QF/JQ is AU$414 to $476

QF ASP-AYQ is out at present- only chartair operating the route and only weekly at that (https://www.chartair.com.au/tourism/Uluru)
no indication of when QF might start operating it again

$400 sounds pretty standard. Flights to Uluru/Alice Springs are generally pretty expensive.

I had a flight credit for CNS-NRT return on JQ and I used the entire credit on a return CNS-AYQ via BNE flight in late 2020.

You are pretty much .... out of luck with alternatives though. You could hold out and hope that the flight is reinstated or a better connection becomes available as tourism increases in Australia.

This could be an outright cancellation, or it could be a pending down-gauging from the 737 to an E190 operated by Alliance or a 717 operated by QantasLink. I'm inclined to the former though. QF have form, a lengthy discussion on a rival forum about this:

QF have axed many of the Alliance E190 DRW-ADL flights that run in the middle(ish) of the day. That moves everyone onto OMG o’clock sparrows or evening departures - which have filled weeks before the flights.

Alliance are having problems of their own with staffing. They are currently in a spot of hot water due to trying to recruit pilots from the UK instead of australia. So I can believe they are having to cancel flights also

I just got hit by this cancellation on September 2 (ticketed with Avios). They appear to have rebooked me on Jetstar via SYD on a flight that takes 8 hours. Thoughts on whether people would leave this/chances the route gets reinstated? I'm also considering substantially altering the routing to AYQ.

In the first instance I’d be seeking a QF metal flight so it comes close to what you should have got. But JQ may well have had similar times.

QF restored the CNS-AYQ direct flight on Oct 19th, with a different flight number (QF 831) leaving at 11:35 AM instead of 7:25 AM. QF rebooked us on this flight and even kept the same seats
