QF flights with COVID-19 cases (from NSW Health Dept)

Posting on the off chance that you have been on one of the affected flights but you are not aware of it.
The government of New South Wales, Australia, are asking you to self-isolate if you have been seated in the following rows on any of the QF flights listed below.
--------------------------------------- Departure date Arrival date Affected rows
QF02 Qantas Singapore - Sydney 27 February 2020 28 February 2020 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 31, 32, 33
QF1509 Qantas Sydney to Canberra 28 February 2020 28 February 2020 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
QF82 Qantas Singapore - Sydney 29 February 2020 1 March 2020 30, 31, 32, 33, 34
QF12 Qantas LaX to Sydney 7 March 2020 9 March 2020 84, 85, 86, 87, 88
QF74 Qantas SanFrancisco/Sydney 8 March 2020 10 March 2020 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Sorry about the poor formatting!

In fact, here is QF's own list of affected flights, which is more extensive as it covers flights other than those into NSW as well:
https://www.qantas.com/au/en/travel-...rus-cases.html

Close contacts

People seated in the same row as the case, the two rows in front, and the two rows behind should:
  • Self-quarantine at home for 14 days
  • Seek immediate attention if symptoms develop

Casual contacts

All other passengers should:
  • Monitor their own health for 14 days from the day the flight landed
  • Seek medical attention if symptoms develop
(I am posting this because governments often have difficulties contacting people when some have booked via a travel agent and not all the details have been passed onto airlines, and/or their mobile number in their system is not in use while overseas. I also believe that the government departments do not always try to contact all the passengers on each flight.)

they’re seemingly going 2 rows each way but by someone not very familiar with planes so from this we can surmise the infected person was in row 5, what’s behind row 5?

Notable that most cases on international flights are from USA, not Asia or Europe. Possibly indicating much higher rates of infection in USA than commonly thought? Or worse pre-boarding screening? Something else?

Almost certainly infected in US and flying to SYD etc. current to March 11. About to cancel SFO to SYD late march, because California apparently has given up and is just mitigating now. UCSF predicts it will get really bad. See my post from UCSF about us being a week behind Italy.

I say this as an American but our testing is way behind where it needs to be. If you don't test you won't find cases. Our testing requirements in many states also seems biased towards using the limited testing on those with recent international travel so a lot of community spread cases may be going undetected.

Interestingly I count 13 of the cases are in premium seats out of a total of 26 cases on QF. So 50% in First or Business class when those seats only make up 15-20% of the actual seats on the plane at most.

Wonder why that is?

Most likely more travel movements which means more exposure to other travellers.
