QF Interlining on different PNR
Hey all,
Flying QF to LAX then on to YVR on a separate AS booking (QF is an award flight, and they didn't have award availability for LAX-YVR, so had to book that separately).
I know the new QF policy is not to interline in this situation. However, has anyone had any actual experience where QF have decided to be nice and tag it through anyway? I will take an extra bag or two if there is a moderate chance that I could get lucky as well.
Thanks!
Josh

My understanding is that QF -
1. Will interline bags to another airline on the same PNR (assuming they have an interline agreement)
2. Will interline bags to another oneworld airline on a separate PNR
3, Will not interline bags to a non-oneworld airline on a separate PNR.
You may get lucky but I would seriously doubt they will interline to AS on a separate PNR. In any event, you will have to collect your bags and clear customs at LAX so not sure the interlining buys you much. At best, just persuade them to at least tag the bag to YVR so you don't have to get it tagged in LAX - you'll still have to collect the bag and 'interline' it yourself in LAX. I don't understand the "extra bag" issue - are you saying that you can take 2 bags internationally but only 1 on the AS flight, so that if they interline you could get 2 bags on the AS flight? Either you need 2 bags or you don't - I don't see the point of taking an extra bag just because you can.

Sorry, I should have been more clear.
I can take 3 bags with QF to LAX. On the AS flight, each bag is paid for, so I will only be taking 1 or two for the whole journey.
If there's a chance that the Qantas Checkin person would check my bags all the way to YVR (against their stated policy), I could avoid having to re-check with AS and pay the fees. If there's a chance of this, I might just take 3 bags and try my luck. If the chance is slim-to-none, I'll just take 1 or 2 at the most.
I know the fees are not that significant ($20/bag with AS, up to 3 bags), but it all adds up, hey? =)

Have you already booked the AS flight?
Many AS flights are also available as AA flight numbers generally for the same price, although I don't know if QF's "oneWorld" rule is based on the marketing carrier or the operating carrier...

Well, for anyone else interested, I checked in yesterday for this flight and ended up taking 3 bags. The QF service girl didn't have a problem with doing this interlining, so I guess it's always worth a shot! (She did, however, have to verify that PS is allowed 3 bags to the US, instead of 2...)
Saved myself $60 in baggage fees, which was great.

Good stuff - perhaps there's something in the rather closer relationship that QF have with AS than with most other non oneworld airlines.
