Partner Gold/Additional Benefit changes

The FF T&C's appear to have been updated with the following:

20.3 Platinum Member additional benefit

20.3.1 Until 3 May 2011, Complimentary Gold Membership may be awarded to a family member or friend nominated by a Platinum Member when a Platinum Member first reaches 2,100 Status Credits within a single Membership Year

20.3.2 On and from 1 October 2010, a Platinum Member may be offered the opportunity to choose one of a selection of benefits (as determined and offered by Qantas), and that selection may include Complimentary Gold Membership, when a Platinum Member first reaches 2,400 Status Credits within a single Membership Year (unless the Platinum member has already obtained Complimentary Gold Membership under clause 20.3.1 for that Membership Year). Details of any such benefit or selection and any additional terms and conditions applicable to this benefit are provided at qantas.com. Any offers made under this clause 20.3.2 will expire at the end of the relevant Membership Year that the Member achieves 2,400 Status Credits or, if the Member achieves 2,400 Status Credits in their Membership Anniversary Month in that Membership Year, the end of the following month. Retrospective claims cannot be made if the offer has expired.

20.3.3 In respect of any Complimentary Gold Membership offered under clause 20.3.1:
(a) each Member may have only one nominated family member or friend at any one time. Until 3 May 2011 retention of Complimentary Gold Membership will require the Platinum Member to accrue another 2100 Status credits in the subsequent Membership Year. The Complimentary Gold Membership Year will be aligned with that of the primary Platinum Member;
(b) Complimentary Gold Membership will not be offered to any nominated family member or friend who already holds Gold or Platinum status level in Qantas Frequent Flyer;
(c) if Complimentary Gold Membership is not retained in the subsequent Membership Year for any reason, the Complimentary Gold Member will be subject to normal Gold status level qualifying criteria; and
(d) if the Platinum Member wishes to change the nominated Complimentary Gold Member, the Platinum Member must ensure that the previously issued Complimentary Gold Membership card is surrendered before a replacement card will be issued for any new Complimentary Gold nominee.

20.3.4 In respect of any Complimentary Gold Membership offered under clause 20.3.2:
(a) each Member may have only one nominated family member or friend per Membership Year. Retention of Complimentary Gold Membership in subsequent Membership Years will require the Platinum Member to accrue 2,400 Status Credits and select the Complimentary Gold Membership option under clause 20.3.2 in each subsequent Membership Year. The Complimentary Gold Membership Year will be aligned with that of the primary Platinum Member;

(b) if the family member or friend is not nominated for Complimentary Gold Membership (or the Platinum Member does not qualify for the benefit under clause 20.3.2) in the subsequent Membership Year, then the Complimentary Gold Member will be subject to normal Gold Status level qualifying criteria; and

(c) once a Platinum Member has nominated a Complimentary Gold Membership to a family member or friend, an alternative cannot be chosen within that Membership Year.

From what I can see:

1) Partner gold now extends to a friend
2) The annual SC requirements moves to 2,400
3) Qantas may offer other benefits

This sounds interesting. Thanks for posting this, perthite! Must be a slow day today.

2400 makes in impossible now to get to PG/other benefit with one DONE4 unless S7 changes the game which I doubt.

So looking foward to those other benefits. PG came in very handy for us over the last years so hopefully I will fly enough to enjoy this or one of the other benefits.

Heem... PS qual. level goes down but PG qual. level goes up, with nothing inbetween changing. Wonder what else is gonna change in the programme soon.

And I think we all await with great interests what "...may be offered the opportunity to choose one of a selection of benefits..." means (I like how it says 'may' and not 'will' !).

Guess we will find out next year (well, doubt I will personally as have never ever hit 2400 SCs in a year yet, but sure some of the QF Uberflyers here will advise us in due course! ).

I have hit PG in the past and would have made this new level. Personally I think it is a step in the right direction as my partner who is already an EXP can't really use SG for anything, especially since we have an Amex Plat too.

Definitely a step in the right direction as the 50K would be nice.

This is so stupid and petty, it's funny...

So, for changes/bookings that you may not be able to make online, i.e., failings that are on QF, they charge you more for it.

However, if you lose your card, i.e., likely to be your fault, they charge you less? Not to mention, some cards are potentially costier to replace due to the chip...

Irony, anyone?

I thought the terms and conditions said Qantas would endevour to give six months notice of negative programe changes which are within its control? (sorry can't access the program t and c at the moment due to very slow internet connection).

This would mean the increase in assisted booking fee is not valid (from 2500 to 3500) - it is within QF's control.

Please disregard if the Ts and Cs only require only a 3 or 4 month notice period.

Ok - I just checked, clause 3.2 says 6 month's notice for any material change where a benefit is limited and was provided by Qantas. Certainly the fee change was a change to the Ts and Cs, but I guess they don't consider it a benefit that has been 'limited'??

Stupid and petty yes. But loss of priority checkin for Qantas Club and Gold is a bit of a slap in the face and a major degrade. NOT funny at all! Yeah, we hear all about seamless checkin and the kiosks and now the fancy luggage labels etc., but I still don't see what is in for Qantas to remove this entitlement. I suppose they will now be able to reduce staffing in the premium checkin areas?

Priority check in is still there for GOLD. Not QF club or QF silver for domestic flights.

And we always said the biggest benefit of lifetime PS was the priority checkin. So now the biggest benefit is access to increased award inventory.

I wonder how this will work with equivalent OW elites then? I assume they will still have access to J check-in
